What do you look for in a pup
This may have been asked before but I am curious what everyone looks for in their next super pup? Is it the runt or the bold outgoing pup? Can you get superpup from an unproven mating? Just curious to everyone's thoughts.

Re: No E collar?
I have an eight year old and a five year old that I have not used the collar on to train. However, I just bought a collar to use with them as I continue enforcing the commands in the field at a longer range. I have not used it yet but am getting ready to transition them to its use. We will see how i...

Congrats and enjoy him, they grow up fast. He does have a great birthday though. My daughter was born last year on 8/8/08 and I was born 8/8/78, so I am a little bias.

Re: new vizsla puppy, now what??
Running and playing is normal for the pups. As stated above, let him be a pup and have fun. Don't try to control everything but don't let him have bad habits. Give him time and he will develop into a nice dog. Be too rough and he could shut down on you. Try and get enrolled in a puppy class when he ...

Re: Roading progress!! Need just a little more guidance
The other thing to remember like I said in your prior post, don't let your Vizsla figure out a way to get by with what she wants. A lot of people say that Vizslas are soft dogs, but I don't agree. I think they are smart enough to push our buttons and try to get by with only what they want. She is co...

Rick, I don't know any trainers in your area but here are a few suggestions. You might try and find a local breed club or pointing dog club that would be able to help you. Google Pointing dog training clubs and your area and see what you can find. Are you dizzying the pigeons? You don't want the pup...

Re: new vizsla puppy, now what??
Good looking pup. You will find Rebel Rouser in a lot of the Vizslas in the US. They are a good kennel and have produced a number of dogs. Rebel Rouser is found in many lines including both of the pups that I have. Just because the Rebel Rouser is in the name does not mean that it is a good thing th...

E-Collar training Help needed
Ok, another question that I should know the answer to. I have an eight year old and a five year old Vizslas. I have never used an e-collar with them as I have trained them. I just bought a Tri-Tronics Pro 200 from someone here on GDF. Now I need help on how to use the E-Collar. Any recommendations o...

Re: new vizsla puppy, now what??
Not an expert but I do have a couple of Vizslas. Best thing is let him be a pup. Introduce him to as many things as possible, but don't baby him if he acts funny. Who is the breeding out of? Where did you get him and where do you live? If you have access to birds, get him out on them. Let me know if...

Re: What am I doing wrong?
I am by no means an expert at this but one thing to remember is that these dogs also have a retreiving instinct and therefore like to have things in their mouths. I can remember a friends dog who would come and hold your hand with her mouth when you arrived as kind of a greeting. Not something that ...

Starting a pup off right for field trials
I am interested in what everyone's thoughts on the correct way to start a puppy for field trials. I have started a couple of dogs but this will be the first pup with a purpose. I doubt that it will be all age but would like to try and get the best run as possible. Any ideas?
Thanks

Re: Another Roading Question - ATV
She is testing you. Both of my vizslas did the same thing. Take it slow with her and keep encouraging her. If you let her get by with not roading, it is just the beginning. I would take it slow but keep going until she co-operates with you and then praise. Speeding up a little may help her get in li...

Thank you for this information but I am wondering if you would mind expanding on this. I have not ran in many field trials, just a couple of AKC trials in the puppy/derby levels and a couple of green broke dogs just for filler dogs. I have a vizsla that will be five this year and I am in the process...

Rob, As you probably know, Chambers is just a dot too. But that is why we moved here. We lived just south of Nashville, TN for 3.5 years and in Blue Springs, MO (near Kansas City) for about 6 years. I am ready to start training a little more now.

You are not going to find a lot of things going on in the summer in Kansas City due to the heat and humidity. There may be a few things going on at James A Reed Wildlife Area. I would look at some local clubs in the area and see if they have anything going on. You can google KC pointing dog clubs an...

Tim, It does seem like a great place and there are quite a few chickens around to train on. Not as many pheasants but I have seen a few and have been hearing a lot of quail. I talked with Hank a week or two ago and he said he was retiring from training but may still come up a time or two. He gave me...

Sounds good. I will have to check those places out, we have not been to either one yet. We have seen several prairie chickens in the area and a suprising number of quail. Will they let red dogs run in those trials? I probably would be blown out of the water but something fun to try.

Hello from Nebraska
Hello all, New to the group and just wanted to introduce myself. My wife and I moved to North Central Nebraska (about 60 miles from SD) in October of last year after the birth of our daughter. We currently have two Hungarian Vizslas and are looking forward to soon adding a Wirehaired Vizsla. I have ...
