Re: Why not more non-broke trials
If you are interested in attracting new blood why not have a category for people with less than __ years experience, so newbies don't have to compete against veterans. Good idea but What happens when a person has more than __ years experience but still wants to compete, just not at a broke dog level?

Re: Why not more non-broke trials
ALL the clubs in Kansas hold Gun Dog Stakes AKA (Amateur Shooting Dog Stakes), of course there has to be enough entries. No different than with puppies, derbies, or sh dogs, if there arent enough entries then you cant have the stake. It does tend to be more catered towards new folks and does give t...

Jeff - I can tell you from personal experience...if you put on gundog or hunting dog stakes where the judgement ceases at flush you will not get much in the way of new blood entering those stakes. Re: Why not more non-broke trials
I can understand that non broke stakes can cause more problems but there are a lot of individuals that could care less about having a broke dog. To not steal any thunder from Chris or Neal’s posts, I will just start this new thread. Why aren’t there more non-broke stakes held at trials? If it is an AKC trial, and the dog is less than 15 months old, and you have a pass at SH, then by all means, I would enter your dog in puppy and Derby. Go out have fun and ask questions. The only way to learn is to do. If your dog doesn't do well, then ask what it needs to do different. Good luck

Not a problem but IMO that age is a great age. By the time the travel ended for Athiest the dog would be 14 months, would have a great foundation on wild birds, if he was sent to a trainer that had that access, and it would be towards the beginning of summer. At this point Athiest would have all sum...

Other than let the pup be a pup what is there to teach? Pups were born May 4th. Granted you could intro to birds, Gun, and yard work but could Athiest do that with the time he has? He would additionally benefit from the bonding time, albeit limited at best. Athiest- I would wait to get a pup. Chris...

Best advice that I can give is let the pup be a pup. Don't worry about trying to do any formal training until she is closer to a year old. Get the pup exposed to as much as possible.
