Oh, I see you deleted the objectionable sentence, where I asked the OP to take the time and expend the energy to give some basic information.

Yet you left the OP's second post.

I do hunt from horseback and UTV, but mostly from foot.

Not all birds will hold every time, though many will; and the big running dogs will find so many more birds that it works out in my favor.

With my Kawsaki Mule and Garmin, I let the dogs hunt.

Re: Puppy seems to hate crate during the day. Normal?

The pup needs more time to be a pup, must have lots of physical, emotional, and mental activity, crates are boring and supply nothing.

Consider an outside kennel or fenced yard with lots of toys, and spend much more time with him.

Oh, I do not like wire crates.

Other than that you are doing great.

It pains me to say this, but train him the same way you did the Lab. Get a solid recall on him, making him come all the way to you, then you can hunt him most anywhere. You are going to miss a lot of birds and annoy the dog, but it will work.

Thanks, I think I understand.

I use collar wise for a dog that is only broke when the collar is on. One that will take birds out when ran in a trial. Those that know instantly they can get by with indiscretions, not those that backslide after a period of days.

Hope you have a great year.
