Re: GSP puppy tips

So what I wanted everyone to know is don't expect to much to soon. Don't be to hard on your pup, because your pup is training you to be patient. So once your pup teaches you to accept or tolerate delays, problems, or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious, puppy will get it.

Wild and Crazy Puppy

There have been several questions about training young dogs. So I thought I would offer my recent experience. I had not had a puppy for more than 7 years. I got my female GSP, Gypsy, when she was 9 weeks old. She was born December 1, 2019. I took her to obedience classes. At 9 months she spend 5 wee...

Re: Skin Hole?

Ok now the rest of the story.

Got home and took Gypsy to my regular Vet.

She, the vet, said no stiches required.

One Vet in Fernley, NV wanted $850 to stich Gypsy up plus the emergency fee!!!

Yikes!

All is well.

Next stop quail down in AZ.

Thanks!

Re: Skin Hole?

The "V" flap of skin is about thumb size.

Will have it repair Monday in Winnemucca.

I have a choice of a couple of Vets.

Any suggestions?

If not I will use a place called Desert Trails Vet.

Thanks

I just noticed a "V" shape hole/tear close to the front arm pit of my 12 month old GSP. I not seem does not seem to bother her and she is keeping clean. I use the TONE button on my controller for the WHOA command along with the verbal WHOA.

I use it several times right out of the truck before there are any birds, just as a little reminder that I am in control.

I think it is a hard mouth issue.

Surely wants the bird dead or maybe wants it to squeak like a toy.

Yesterday the quail might have been shot hard exposing lots of yummy meat.

You should find plenty of quail above Interstates 8 and 10 without the dangers of your concern. Use a steering wheel lock and leave nothing of value the can be seen through the windows. A red cattle dog on the front seat really helps!!! Talk to Border Patrol that are driving the back roads so they k...

I don't know a thing about hunting capercaillie with a dog, however your dog is very young. The more birds you but your dog on the better. It will make mistakes, but it's only a puppy. I leave in early September and hunt wild birds in 6 or 7 states, drive 10,000 miles and hunt more than 100 days. Early on I learned that I need at least two dogs. A simple foot or toe injury will stop the action for a week or more. Yes I am packing. My truck and trailer are serviced. Life is GREAT!

It is all about habitat. Look for healthy knee high sage brush with plenty of grasses between. It doesn't take much elevation to change the conditions. Find water tanks and look for tracks. Hunt your dogs into the wind. Older birds will flush wild. Go to where they flushed. There may still be some s...
