I built 3 of these many, many, years ago. They have lived thru multiple dogs. They work very well, warm in winter and cool in summer if ya paint em white. This new version has a porch, mine do not have that.

Pointing wild birds and pointing pigeons are entirely different. Plus quail and chukars are a lot different. Plus scenting conditions vary a lot. Young dogs need wild bird exposure to figure it all out. Keep running that dog on them wild birds every chance you get until they start setting. Those pig...

I think DG is on to something. Of the dogs I have owned, those with the darker pads and nails have seemed to have the toughest feet. I think that is part of the equation. That's why they cut the tails off, so you can't see how bad they are.
Here is one with a 10 o'clock mountain time tail. Taken today, at least it was on wild birds, does that get any brownie points.

to me it seems like a repeat breeding never quite reproduces the dogs it did in the first breeding,,,,, one of those situations,,,,, "a day late and a dollar short". So why is that? Is it because the dogs are older, or because they were sold to different people, or is it something entirely different?

I think the manual says 18 hrs. I have 2 and have used them a lot and I would say that is close. You get a signal on your handheld that tells you it is really low before it goes dead. It's not that green. The pic is from a few weeks ago. I have tried both on each dog. I truly can not notice a difference in how the dog performs in one vs the other. I will try tightening that yoke tonight.

I saw a funny set of horse tracks up there this morning. I couldn't figure it out. It kind of looked like some one was riding a horse with a set of training wheels. It all makes sense now. :mrgreen:
