Re: Fiddler Bred Pointers

Craig Thompson of Ranchone Kennels would be your best bet for Fiddler blood. The dogs he produce are extremely classy, run to the front, and find birds. "Poker Straight" tails I might add. These dogs have been very successful on the West Coast. I have a derby from Craig that is doing very well on th...

Re: Straw or Cedar Chips ?

I would recommend that neither straw or grass hay be used as bedding. I am just coming to this conclusion. I have used both for years with no problems, but have been fighting a severe upper lung irritation that has been very hard to treat. I have been to several Vets and none of them can identify th...

Re: Chronic Cough

Yes, they are kenneled outside on concrete runs. I have prairie grass in the dog houses. This has also been a discussion (Moldy Hay). I have kept it changed out on a regular basis, making sure I don't use any grass that may look moldy. My first thought was that maybe a fine dust inside the houses ma...

Re: Chronic Cough

Dog Dr. That what I am thinking. The odd thing is both dogs have never went off of feed, act lethargic or anything. I do think they are done on bird finding ability. I haven't noticed a obvious loss of gas (go), but It has been extremely cold here and haven't been able to run. I did run a few trials...

Re: Chronic Cough

The rest of the Story: My female a competetive fieldtrial dog (RU-Derby Region 14 AFTCA) All-Age disappeared from my kennel and lived feral for 5 months. She disappeared Feb. 15 and was caught in a live trap on July 29th. 2010. She was skinny and rundown when I got her back. She was put on a rigid w...

Chronic Cough

I have 2 english pointers that have a chronic cough. This cough was what I thought was Kennel Cough sounds like a dog is trying to clear it's throat of a chicken bone or something. Sounds like a honk. Seems to be worse when dogs are just turned loose. I have been to the vet and treated with a 10 day...

Nasal Irritation

Just a quick question. The ability of my dogs to find birds has dropped off drastically. I have also noticed a continued snorting, clearing of the nasal passage indicating issues. My dogs are kenneled on cement. I keep timothy grass hay in the dogs houses and boxes. Any insight, am I causing this wi...

Re: Going to Kansas again what time of year

Sir, I agree with the others. The later the better. Crops continue to come off later and later. Farmers are much more accommodating when the feed is in the bin. I don't know if you are planning to hunt private or public walk-in ground, but there should be plenty available. The areas around Larned, e...

Re: Dual Sired Litters?

Think about what you are doing here. If you have a female that you want to build upon it makes sense. In many situations it takes far to long (time-wise) to breed the female to different studs & then evaluate the offspring. Linebreeding has been very popular in both horses & dogs. Once again, if you...

Fella's

Look at this information this way. If a guy has time to post full time exaggerating on all their experiences ask yourself one question. When does all this dog training take place?

Re: NGSPA Sharptail Championship

Rich,
I was thinking of purchasing a horse from Ohio. The owner was going to meet me in the Sandhills of Nebraska as he is judging the chicken championship being held there. I don't think it is going to work for me.
Hoping to see you in Circle.

Re: Field Trial Horse (For Sale)

Eric, Thanks for the kind words. You are exactly right. Mr. Oliver does indeed breed true workin horses. These horses are sound and have a head on their shoulders that is the same day after day. Mr. Oliver raised the mare I have for sale. She has produced several very nice foals. I do not want to ra...

Hanna's Elhew Lou, Just a little background on Lou. She was a left over pup from a litter raised by my good (late) friend Ralph Thompson. Ralph resided in McPherson, Ks. and loved a good bird-dog and had the knack of good breeding. Lou was the left-over pup from the litter. She originally was called...
