Lab eating doves
I have some frozen doves from last season that I saved to train my lab. The problem is she eats them. When I used the dummy with dove scent she brought it back no problem, but the real deal she eats. How can I correct this? She is One year old and ready to retrieve.

Dog not looking for Birds Anymore :(
Hello, I have a six month old Lab. I took her hunting last month and she would look for the doves in the grass when I would tell her "hunt-em-up" and she would look for them and find them. Well took her this month and used the same command and she just sat there looking at me, like if I spoke Chines...

Re: Young Dog Eating Birds
My pup is doingthe same. She will run after the downed bird get it come back and eat it. I think I will tie a rope next time and bring her towards me then give her a treat in exchange for the bird.

Re: Timed Feeding Once a Day or Twice?
I feed my dogs once a day 7:00am. I would do two times a day but the birds would eat the second serving. And with once a day feeding they finish all the food.

Mossberg Model 88 and a Model 500 both excellent shotguns, never have any missfeeds, or jams.
Re: Dog Food
Ole Roy, I tried Purina, and Pedigree, and they just didn't eat it not even as pups. One day got some ole roy from walmart and they chomped it all down, they love the stuff.

The reason I got a lab is because they are very obedient and very loyal dogs. They like to work (And work hard) to please their master.

Re: Frustration!
When all else fails, try treats. The way I had to train my dog is by giving him a treat when she does what I tell her to do. Sit and show her what sit is then give her a treat. Stay treat, shake treat. I bought some at the local Sporting Goods store. Maxx Liver Rewards. She loves them and would do a...

I put a harness on mine and take him on the bike(he pulls me). He can do two miles (never done more) without stopping. He loves it.

Re: WHISTLE`S?
I do one whistle to stop and sit. Two whistles to go get it and more that three to come back. Works for me. But you can teach him/her however you want.

Re: South Texas Dog help
Welcome, I like the labrador retriever. I have two of them. A three year old (black) and a three month old (chocolate) that I am training. This will be the first year I go dove hunting, and I am hooked on dogs and hunting. Labradors are good at swimming, and are natural retrievers. You can keep them...

Re: WHISTLE`S?
My lab pup is three months and I started whistle training her at around 2 1/2 months. She is responding pretty good. I agree it's never to early to start whistle training your pup.

Re: Lab pup chews on lead
My Lab pup did the same thing. What I did was have her walk around the house with the lead on all day so she can get use to it. Then I took her outside and everytime she bit it I just told her no and took it out of her mouth. After like a week doing this she still does it but not that much. I think ...

Re: Wont fetch with shotgun
I don't know if I can shot a blank gun in my yard, the people around here might think it's a real gun, need to take him to the range. I think I will do what RuffShooter said and take him out to the open field and shot birds there. I might even go get me some real pigeons and raise a couple of them h...

Re: Wont fetch with shotgun
1) I throw the duck or training dummies and he will run get it and come back here at the house. 2) Whistle training him so he sits till I tell him to fetch. He only does one bird not multiple. 3) This was the first time I took him with gun fire. 4) Only myself at the range. 5) I threw the duck at th...

Wont fetch with shotgun
Hello, I started training my 3 year old lab to retreive. In the backyard he does great at retreiving (No gun fire), but when I take him out to the range and fire the shotgun he just stands there, doesn't go get the bird. Have taken him out like 6 times already. Is this dog being gun shy? Has anyone ...
