Re: Brittanies needing homes
If you send me an email I can get you the owner's contact information and she can answer all of your questions. I really don't have an idea on pedigrees or color.

Brittanies needing homes
With these tough times a friend of mine who was breeding Britts needs to find homes for 16 dogs. They are located in northern Illinois and the dogs range in age from 1-8 years, both males and females, and none are spayed or nuetured. Some have had field trial expierence while others are still quite ...

Good day to end the season
My 8 year old daughter and I hit the field for the last time this year for a wonderful day on a Northern Illinois Hunting preserve. Weather was crisp, but not cold, and we saw and shot 5 birds.

Re: Promoting Wild Bird Populations
My 40 acre farm is 21 acres of CRP and is a designated dog training site and we work very hard and making sure we are doing the right things to encourage wild bird populations. We are located in Northwestern IL, and the numbers are very low...but this year we harvested 6 roosters and saw over 20 hen...

Re: Bird Dog/ Outdoor shows?
The bottom line is money. It can cost between $10-15,000 per episode to make one show. Also for the 30 minutes that you see on tv that takes about 20 hours to actually get it in a format that you can watch. There are costs with equipment, crew, editing, travel, insurance, etc. that make creating and...

8 year old's first hunt
Ever since we picked up our Brittany pup from Gittrdonebritts last summer my middle daughter has been begging me to go hunting with her. I made her a promise that once she turned 8 she could come with us...well her birthday was December 23rd, and so a week later we went to our local hunting club and...

Re: House your dog inside or outside??
My 18 month old Brittany has been in the house since she came home at 12 weeks. She is crate trained and gets lots of time outside playing with the kids.

It was cold outside...
With the temperature reading -2 and a -11 wind chill my Brittany and I set out to a small hunt club in Illinois. The club put out 5 birds for us in a 40 acre milo field. Within 5 minutes she was on point and all of a sudden neither one of us was cold. We ended up finding 8 birds (must have been some...

Has anyone come up with a design or thing-a-ma-jig to automatically close the door on a quail recall pen. I will not be at my training area everyday and would like to close that door to keep the predators out. Any help would be great...

In Illinois it is Jan. 8 for the northern part of the state and a week later for the southern part. Reserves are open until March 31.

Snow Precautions
I have a 6 month old Brit and we have been out hunting quite a bit this season...however with a fresh blanket of snow on the ground I am wondering if I need to be thinking about any precautions for her feet?

Re: letting the pup "be a pup" can be frustrating lol
I completely understand. While my 5 month old Brit is a bit younger I have had the same issues...she is a great field mouse pointer...but have faith. Finally yesterday she held a point solid on 3 roosters...just wish I was a better shot since I only bagged one. Eventually they will figure it out and...

Illinois Wild Pheasant
Our state season opened Saturday and I got to enjoy our family farm in North Western Illinois yesterday. My 5 month old Brittany pointed 3 roosters and I was able to bag this one. With it being her first bird and the first one of the season I am going to mount it... I am hopefully that we can contin...

Puppy's first bird
My 5 month old Brittany, "Buffy" got her first bird on Wednesday. We went to a state park where they stock the pheasants so there were plenty of birds. After bumping and chasing 3 early she locked in on this rooster in the tall grass. Thankfully I was able to make the shot. :D . All those pigeons an...

Re: Silver Springs State Park, IL...first hunt on Wed.
I agree Naper...it is tough around here to find a decent place to hunt. I have a small farm in western Illinois that holds a ton of birds...but with it being 2.5 hours away...kinda makes it hard to just slip away for the day. Anyways thanks for the information and I will update everyone on how the m...

Has anyone hunted here before? This will be our first trip...we have our reservation and are all set...but any advice on which field to try and pick would be appreciated. I know you have to stay in your draw for the first hour...but after that I understand you are able to hunt anywhere. Thanks every...

Re: how did you guys get into hunting and bird dogs?
As a newbie...(just started hunting in February)...it started by moving from the suburbs of Chicago out to a small farming community 14 years ago. I have always been a nature lover, Eagle Scout, passionate hiker, and fisherman, but never was exposed to hunting. As our daughters started to get involv...

Re: Not getting my pigeons
I had a similar problem until I tied the bobs up for about a week so that the pigeons could get comfortable going in and out of the cage freely to feed. Once I noticed that the corn was begining to be eaten I lowered one bob...then a few days later the other...and what do you know...I have been catc...

Re: PET INSURANCE
As an insurance salesman who is also a loyal dog owner I have not found a pet policy that is worth the money. Most of these policies limit the payment for vet bills and if you breakdown the math IMO you will be money ahead to just put some money each month into a "slush fund" account that you can sa...
