Re: help on pup and wild quail

I'm new to the game, but would rolling a clipped wing pigeon or other type of bird out for the pup to catch and retrieve, after he points and flushes help him keep the drive. I feel that if he keeps pointing, flushing, and no reward for his effort, he will stop wanting to do it.

Re: Building your first pigeon coop.....

I have a question for those of you that have coops. I am about to build my own, but am very concerned about health risks. How do you control mites? I've heard that is one of the major problems with pigeons, the second would be the droppings. Can they cause respiratory problems? How about my dogs, ca...

Re: To Neuter or Not?

Thanks for the info guys. I will be spaying the bitches and leaving my dog just the way he is. Spaying the bitches will help by not getting pregnant from my dog, or any other, and has no effect on their character. On the other hand if I neuter my dog his drive will probably decrease alot and he is j...

Re: Dog not looking for Birds Anymore :(

Did you train your dog to retrieve, or did you just take her out hunting with you and the dog was retrieving, because it is her natural instinct? If you trained with her to retrieve to hand and with proper hand and voice commands maybe you should continue training. Try about 15 minutes per day, and ...

Help in identifying dog breed

Need help in identifying if my dog is an English Springer Spaniel or a English Cocker. I know that the difference should be quite noticeable, but the person I bought the dog from keeps saying he is an English Cocker, when my dog looks more like an English Springer Spaniel. I will post pics as soon a...

Re: Need help with blind retrieves

I have encountered another problem with my spaniel. This was my mistake, I got some frozen dove, that i had in the freezer to have him retrieve them. The only problem was that the doves had alot of blood. I had read articles that said that the birds should be blood free, but did not really understan...

Re: Dog Confinment

Thanks for the replies. My dog seems to be doing ok and he knows when play time and training begin and gets really excited. I feel that if I kennel him now it will only bring him down. I just needed some input and it is greatly appreciated.

Dog Confinment

What do you think would be best? to have my dog confined to kennel and only be allowed out for daily walks, and training, or to let him roam around in the yard. My house sits on two residential lots, so he has lots of room to run around. Please advise

Re: Need help with blind retrieves

Thanks TallBoy for your input I will definitely give it a try. A good friend of mine advise that I try it with white buckets, but I guess buckets or cones it does'nt really matter as long as the dog has a reference point. Once again I really appreciate your help. 8)

Re: retrieving and training

Dogs are very intelligent animals. I was training with my 8mo old Springer Spaniel and threw out a bumper for him to retrieve. He retrieved it twice and delivered on hand with no problem, on the third try he ran to the bumper ran back halfway and stopped. He would not come towards me, I made the mis...
