Glad your ok. The one time I hit a Deer it was like a bomb went off and destroyed my radiator. You don't think how solid they are until you hit one. It one came through a windshield it could really hurt someone.

Re: Coyotes and Dogs
Interesting thread. My older Vizsla was trained for passive decoy dog work. There would be a nip here and there, but the best way to describe what would go on would be more "dances with wolves" encounters. Most times Coyotes would show in pairs, but only one would try to engage my dog at a time. I h...

Re: Just curious ....
My older Vizsla who was strictly a hunter, I trained to flush on command. but it was not for every bird pointed. It depended on the situation. My youngest Vizsla I don't want to flush on his own ever, but the reason is more related to running him in hunt tests and trials. I'm having enough trouble w...

Re: Digging Brittany
I am surprised the poop in the holes trick has not worked. Has always worked for my Vizslas. I put as much as I have in the holes and cover with as much dirt as I can scrape back over the hole. They never did in the same spot again. Back when I had hounds and graveled kennels, that did not work. I k...

Here is Blaze with her Arkyoter predator call. She is such a diva that I will never give in and say it in front of her, but I have to admit. She can call better than me.
Like I said, she is a special dog.

Re: Anyone use their bird dog for coyotes too?
Dogs are not used as bait. My grandfather was a houndsman in the 1950s. He used scent hounds on his truck to locate, then track. Then greyhound and wolf hound crosses and who knows what else where turned loose. The sight hounds would chase, catch, and kill the yote. This is not what decoy dogs do. N...

Re: Anyone use their bird dog for coyotes too?
Yes. I used my elder Vizsla Blaze as a passive decoy dog for about two years. But she is a special dog. Before she lost her vision she was used not only for upland, waterfowl, and fur, but also for Turkey and stalking hogs. Never in any danger. I would describe it more as a "dances with wolves" appe...

Worming meds won't hurt now and it might help if that has contributed to the weight loss to begin with. I would look at the labels on dog food and try to find a high protein, high fat dry food in the brand your currently feeding. Add some canned food to the dry food if you need to entice to eat more...

haha passive coyote decoy..that's good A passive decoy dog as opposed to an aggressive decoy dog, stays with you when your calling and does not engage a coyote. It is a visual decoy. An agressive decoy dog will go out and engage the coyote to pick a fight and then run back into the owner with the c...

Sniper, Did you have that hooded merganser you shot in the duck picture mounted? No, I have taken several as bonus birds on duck hunts. They get eaten. Most get added to duck or all game smoked sausage. The one in that particular picture was during one of the first days of a two week hunting/campin...

Yes, I have one like that. I really do. She is my lifetime dog. She is a rather large 8 year old Vizsla who hunts and or retieves all game. We hunt 3 to 4 States every year. There are times say a Texas Quail dog purist or a dedicated Waterfowler have made it clear they do not agree with my kind of h...

Yeas ago, Texas did an experimental public draw hunt at Granger Lake for pheasant. They had stocked pheasants there. The stocking failed miserably and the project was given up on. The hunts were ok, but they were in September and hard on dogs. I was on one of these hunts with a Brittany. They had as...

Once you have chosen an area of the State to hunt. Pick an area of walk in hunt units and other hunting areas. Plan a driving route between them. Stop and hunt the ones that look promising to you. Pass up the ones that don't. The next day plan a new driving route that includes the ones that were pro...
