Too late for "steady to wing/shot"???

I have a 4.5 yr. old Setter, hi performance, great nose, long story short it is my 1st dog, so the 1st year or so we did just a few sessions with a trainer, due to $$$ and other things I had to do most of the training myself by stealing what info I could off others! He is steady on "whoa" on pointin...

Re: question for Grouse hunters

I thank you, my dog seems to run big, I just wonder what guys did before beeper collars to locate dogs on point in thick stuff when they could not see the dog? I will get a beeper collar someday when budget allows! By the way my dog will hunt day light to dark with or without bird contacts, he never...

Re: llewellin or english setter?

not sure about those lines but I found an English Setter pup 4 years ago that was bred with heavy Grouse Ridge blood, doing some research I found that the grouse ridge line goes back to a relative of Llewellin that brought some dogs back to America that were bred very much in the Llewellin style, I ...

Re: Roams good in the woods, stays tight in fields?

Did u get that dog from Grouse lines? If so that is normal instinct, many a Grouse woods dog act different at first when taken to the open fields, they are looking for the cover, just keep consisent, find birds and keep at it then the dog will learn!

I change the water daily, but with him 5 times a day is needed, especially in the summer, he splashes to play, I had them raised and he raised up on hind legs to kick in them, I even added baby pool to play in, still got in his drink buckets? I will need a non-resident license for pheasant hunting Kansas. Is there no ...

Scotts kenel floor question?

I am looking at the Scotts above ground kennel grates, they are galvanized steel, made to let the waste pass thru to the ground. My question is how does it affect the dogs paws/feet, as the steel has to be super cold in the winter? Anyone with experience using metal grate kennel floors?

Setter flea question

I have a 3 year old English Setter that has never had fleas, he is kenneld outside, never treated for fleas, I have gave him maybe 3 yard baths with flea shampoo, is it the color of his coat that keeps them off or am I lucky? I was prepared to battle them when I got a Setter due to the long hair!

Any hunters experienced and know where and if campsites are available in SW Kansas or Iowa for pheasant hunting trips. I imagine it is cold so a camper would help, any location tips or survival/comfort tips! Would mostly be hunting WIA in Iowa and SW of Dodge city in Kansas!
