Deworming...how often?
Afternoon all,
Just wondering what the protocol for deworming is? Do I wait to suspect it and have to get a vet prescription for it or can I just get it anywhere? What worming meds are recommended? My guy is skinny and just want to make sure.

Bossman,
You're right. I have gotten some great advice from this board and that's what keeps me coming back. I am learning so much from browsing and reading up on all different topics. Nothing is finalized yet with a new pup. Still have to get the official word but we're getting there!

Re: Pro Plan vs. Taste of the Wild
So we are about 4 weeks in or so with the PPP and we are at 4 cups/day (2 morning, 2 evening) with prozyme and his front ribs are starting to cover up a little bit. No lack of energy (not that he ever had a lack of energy) and poops are more regular and all firm. No loose stool unless I take him out...

PPP for about 2.5 weeks now and can see improvement in my dog's coat. It is thicker and shinier (thicker because of weather also. He is outside all day and it is pretty cold around here.) He has no lack of energy, but he never really did. He is at 3.5 cups a day and the ribs are starting to not show...

Well, we're one week in on the PPP only diet (I had a little of the old stuff left and it's finally gone). My boy is still thin but I dropped from 5 cups of Purina One to 3 cups of PPP. I just went up to 3.5 cups/day and we'll see how that goes. I'm thinking I might need a digestive enzyme for him? ...

Re: Pro Plan vs. Taste of the Wild
Well, two days so far on the PPP and no adverse reactions. Stool is firm, but there seems to be a lot of it per day. I have him at 3 cups/day and will give it some more time there and see if he adjusts to it. So far so good, but two days is hardly enough to tell anything.

Thanks,
I picked up a bag of Pro Plan Performance today. Since it is made by Purina and so is the current feed, is there any reason I need to break him in slowly with the new feed? Or is Purina One completely different than Pro Plan?

Ezzy,
I agree with you in that water is the fastest way to cool a dog (or a person) down but it is not evaporation in the water, it is conduction. Water is conducting the heat away in the water, when they are out of the water, it is evaporation.
