Very interesting because I just read another article in Outdoor Life praising the all but extinct 16ga. They were saying that it was the perfect upland gauge. Is there a reason you don't want the wire style crates? If I lay the rear seats down, in my Ford Escape, I can fit 2 definitely and I'm fairly certain a third would fit as well.....It'd be cheaper to replace crates than a vehicle.
