Cool setup DG. I bet the gas mileage is pretty good in that FJ.

Western Futurities in Sonoita, AZ... Pup needs a ride home.
Wondering if anyone will be passing through Utah coming home from the Western Futurities or other trials in Arizona or New Mexico. I bought a new brittany puppy and just trying to find her a ride back this way. If anyone can help me out I can donate some gas money ($50) for your kindness. Wish I had...

Dog Training/Hunting Rigs and outfits...
I would love to see what others are using for dog training and bird hunting outfits. I just finished customizing a 2007 Ford Ranger 4x4 with a flatbed and a custom dog box. The goal was utility with decent gas mileage. Still looking for other ideas to make it the perfect rig. Let's see some pics of ...

Re: Johnny House
Thanks for the pics and the clarification on a Johnny House vs. Recall Pen. I really like your design and it seems like it would work great. I wish I owned some land where I could build something more permanent like that. I have a barn where I raise the birds and keep them flight conditioned, then m...

Re: Johnny House
This is one that we have used with some success. It is similar to what Dave Walker uses. Just a simple box with a recall funnel on one side. You can build your own funnel but we got this one from GunDogSupply . One end is closed in for shelter and the other end is open. A door on the top for food/wa...

The wood kennel decking is made of 1x6 pine. I think he stains it once every year. You can read more about it on his blog at Cove Mountain Kennels.

Re: my coop pics
Can't explain it but my best success is coming from the two nests containing the plastic nesting bowls. The pigeons are building nests in the other boxes too, but my best hatch/survival rates are in the plastic nesting bowls. You can get them at foys pigeon supplies . http://www.pointinggundogs.com/...

Re: Building a new dog run / kennel any suggestions
Wow, nice kennels 307. Mine are a little more plain and simple. Just make sure you have a good grade to hose it down and keep it clean. I have a half concrete, half dirt kennel. I did pour concrete footings around the edge of the dirt part to avoid any digging problems. http://www.pointinggundogs.co...

Re: Raising Quail and game birds?
I prefer the day-old chicks as well. I raised 500 chukar last year and ended up selling most of them for hunting, trialing, hunt tests, etc. The ones that were left over were handy to have for training my own dogs. Chukar are pretty hardy birds and good flyers. I raise pigeons too for dog training p...

I'm just a rookie, it's nice to hear some more experienced opinions on the matter. I couldn't imagine training my dogs without the check cord. It has saved me from some big mistakes many times over. If I see something getting out of hand, I simply step on the check cord to get control of the situati...

Electrical conduit...
In Bill Tarrant's book he recommends using 1/2" electrical conduit. I bought some conduit today and I am gonna try building one. Hoping to help give me some leverage on my shorthair that wants to creep in on points. Bill Tarrant also says it's useful in teaching a dog to heel.

Still haven't made the purchase - trying to find used ones. Hopefully my patience will pay off. http://w...

Thanks for the tip on Brittanys. However, I did a fair amount of research on search engine keywords and the searches for "Brittany Spaniel" are more than double that of simply "Brittany". Since I depend on the search engines for my web traffic I decided to go ahead and leave the "Spaniel" since appa...

Some great advice. Not sure I have the experience to add anything. But, I have purchased three new GSP pups over the past year. Thanks for the great input guys. This is my first time training a German Shorthair and sometimes I feel like there is not enough time for intense training. What's your favorite 5 minute drills for pup?
Holding to the thinking that shorter training sessions more frequently is better than spending 2 hours training after work each night, I am interested to hear your favorite 5 minute training drills. The kind of drills you can do as your leaving for work, or just before dinner or bedtime. These can i...

I think the overall goal is to get more young people excited about spending time in the outdoors. This helps to pass on the legacy and appreciation for our great land. These ...
