Re: Puppy under foot?

I had a older dog who kept under foot all the dang time, I took off the checkcord and let him run, experience and explore. He still checked back often (he would run out and come right back), but now after a month he is getting more secure and is checking back less frequently and really rangeing out....

I made doors out of the same wire I built the cage with. I cut the door one one length longer, and then cut out and bent in the middle (to make it more inviting), I tried cutting the door with just long strips (no cross sections) out of the wire, but they could push through. I used j clips to fasten...

Re: Think you have a good handle on your pup?

I ran into a small flock a couple of weeks ago, and my dog got real birdy for a good 100 yards before we got to them, she pointed them and they took off flying, she was watching them fly in all directions, when they all passed she got up on her hind legs and barked at them for a good minute or so, a...

I've shot over 500 rounds throug...

Here it what is posted on the KDWP " Many upland bird hunters are afield at this time, as well, and while they are always urged to wear hunter orange, it is especially important at this time." So I guess it is your call, but I know I would wear it, and would make sure my dog has some orange on as we...

Re: Public land vs. Preserve

You need to do some training. Just because a dog comes a good hunting line doesn't mean it is going to go out and find birds without some formal training. As stated above it needs to work with birds in a controlled enviroment (i.e. pigeons). Running in a field the dog is going to chase, sniff and se...

Re: professional vs on your own dog training

I agree time is the most important thing if you train them yourself. I had a trainer who would tell me what to do for each step and then when I completed that step, he would tell what to do next, it really helped out. I felt if I trained and understood the dog, then if I had problems in the field, I...

Re: Difficulty trapping pigeons, any tricks?

Are they eating any of the food while you have the trap open? If not move trap, watch were they eat, I also used old bread in my trap and it seemed to help. If other birds are eating there the pigeons will eventually. It took a good 2 to 3 weeks before I started catching them regularly. Netting them...

Yes you can leave the trap open a few days, make sure there is food on the outside and put a big pile in the middle of it when you do put the doors back down. It does take them a while to used to the trap around, so be patient.

Good Luck,

My pup is 6 1/2 months and chased my other dog around every time they ran. The older dog would put her in place, but she kept on chasing and wanting to play. About the last 5 times she has begun to do her own thing and not try and play with the older dog.
