doggy vests
I"m from Montana and I love to hunt ducks. It gets really cold up here so I bought my two dogs a vest, they're similar in size so one would do the trick. I went to Wholesale Sports to take a look at the vests. I was looking for a 34" or 35" chest size. The largest I found was 33". This was the 2XL, ...

Re: bark collar
One of my dogs loves to bark for no reason at all. I think we put a bark collar on him around 5 months, it scared the crap out of him at first but he quickly understood what was causing the little jolts. Unfortunately, my dog knows the difference between having the collar on and not having it on. He...

went out today and a buddy bagged a couple of honkers, my dog drake, a yellow lab, charged in and finished a wounded bird. he obviously wasn't shy and he just couldn't seem to figure out how to bring it to me. he was grabbing on but wouldn't carry it back to me. It's been a while everybody, I've been spending too much time freezing my butt off in the cold. The duck numbers in my area are much lower than last year. I don't know how many more times I can go in single digits and come home with an empty game bag. Any cold, late-season pointers? p.s not alot of ...

Holding the line drill
I recently posted about my dogs holding a straight line on a blind retrieve. On the ducks unlimited website I saw a video about "trailing memories". I saw the trainer take the dog to various locations and drop a bumper. The trainer went back to his original spot, lined up the dog and gave him the ba...

I'm going to go grouse hunting this weekend for the first time this year and i'm psyched. This area I'm going is really thick stuff. Hey i'm from Helena and last year I was out by the Fort Peck Resevoir I never touched the crop fields. I went out looking for mulies down in the sage and coolies and it seemed i was flushing a covey of sharpies every 30 seconds. I was upset I had a rifle in my hand. Wow thanks for all the comments guys. Most of them were you guys arguing about random subjects but I mainly wanted to know if a wirehair is going to be able to take extreme temperatures like -30 with a blizzard which are very realistic and still be in a frisky birdy mood.

I'm really interested in the German Wirehaired Pointer. I see that they're a very versatile dog but I'd like to know more.
How are they with people?
Can they handle the cold of Montana during duck season?
What are your experiences with these dogs?
If you guys can help me out thanks

My dog Drake has one issue that really needs to be dealt with. If he could just get this down it would make life so much easier. Re: Gun Sensitive in the water
If I understand this right your dog is gun shy while in the water. I would think that your dog got a little scared because sound travels over water much better and louder and dogs ears are much more sensitive than ours. Another thing that may have startled the dog is that you shot while the dog was ...

It all boils down to what you are hunting for the most part, where do you live? Do you want it to be a family dog as well? The Labrador is definitely solid in all fields. You wouldn't want to put a GSP in freezing water in the dead of winter if you are duck hunting in Montana. But you may want a poi...

If stagnant water isn't frozen you should be okay. Now but if it's a cold day out there you don't want to keep him wet in the cold for too long.
Let your dog get the idea and don't over do it. That's all I've got.
