Re: What to do about an aggressive dog?
I just read on another site that hornet or wasp spray is really good. I have used it for its intended use and agree that it can shoot up to 30 feet and is very directional. The can might be a little big...

Re: Sad, sad day today
Are you kidding me? We went up and saw the YLM pup we are getting in two weeks and they looked great!! 10 hour round trip. My excitement level is at least as great as how sad you are. It cannot happen fast enough. They are soooooooo cute. I am truly sorry for your "loss" but look at what you did for...

Re: Books and DVD
I have the SmartFetch DVD. I thought it was very well done. Eons ago, when I had a lab, I used "Training Retrievers To Handle" by DL and Anne Walters. I thought a lot of it at the time, but can't remember more than that. If I was only going to hunt and not do tests, etc., would I need the Transitio...

Re: Books and DVD
It's a lab. Look into Evan Graham's SmartWork system. It's nothing if not structured. Just curious by what you meant by "It's a lab." I chuckled when I read it. LOL  It is because I had made a reply suggesting a book that dealt with training pointing dogs. Obviously I had read the post too qu...

Re: Cold dogs
I know this is a different breed, but the nastier the weather, the more my lab wants to be out in it.

Getting my second pup soon and trained my first lab using the Richard Wolters Game Dog method and it worked well.
I am looking for a more structured plan this time as Game Dog isn't as structured as I wanted. What do you suggest? I will not be training with a collar.

Close hunting lab
I currently have a 11 year old lab named Loki. He is my first dog and I trained him. He is a wonderful dog as he is well mannered, calm and everybody compliments me on how nice a dog he is (I always say I got lucky and believe it). Get him in the field and he is all business but he has always run ou...

Re: Bonding a pup around an older dog
Thank you for the suggestions. I think I will make sure I spend enough time with the pup and use the crate to my advantage.

Re: What does this say about breeder?
I appreciate all the insight every one has given.
My current dog is a male and sometimes I have to go looking for him in the house to see where he is. He is so easy to have around, hopefully the pup will be like him.
Thanks again.

What does this say about breeder?
A lab breeder I am considering for my second dog says he always sells the females first. He actually has 4-5 males at 10-11 weeks that he tried to sell me by lowering the price $250 to $700. He always has a hard time selling the males. What does this tell me about the breeder, if anything? He is a p...

Bonding a pup around an older dog
I am getting a lab pup in a couple months. I trained my first dog, Loki, who is now 11 years. I read Richard Wolters books back then so I know about the 7-12 week timeframe and bonding during that time. How do I make sure that the pup will bond only to me (an somewhat to the wife) and not the older ...

Re: Words of Wisdom
Train a dog 5-10 minutes a day, preferably in more then one session, 5 days a week, and in a year you will have a dog that everyone will love.
