Re: Coturnix quail for training?

I have used them out of launchers and they flew just fine once launched. i was using a blank gun and not shooting them and some survived overnite and suprisingly flew fairly well when we would relocate them over the next couple days. they are very easy keepers and much more resistant to disease. Als...

range in hunting dogs

Hello all, I would like to pose a question to the members of the board. What kind of range do you like to see out of your hunting dogs? That question is for"hunting dogs" not field trial dogs. How do you feel about gps and tracking collars, should they be a necassary tool for your hunting dog? Last ...

Re: Bayer Tree and Shrub for Fleas and Ticks

Cornell there was no contradiction. i stated "however, i don't doubt that there are people that care for their animals more than i do. i love my dogs, but they are just that dogs"! I was stating that dogs are just that dogs and that around here they are not to be compared to people. Also i stated th...

Re: Bayer Tree and Shrub for Fleas and Ticks

i would estimate it's approximately 75% cheaper. I use to be able to get dog feed that was a mixture of all the brands at a feed mill that were the bottom of the feed bins. don't remember the exact brands but an example would be high pro, gravy train, puppy food, etc just all mixed together. it woul...

Re: Bayer Tree and Shrub for Fleas and Ticks

someone on here asked about it and i just added that i personally use it and i personally know people that have used it on there dogs for a few years. as far as how valuable your dogs are that has nothing to do with it. at onetime i had around 50k in dogs and still would save money where possible. s...

Re: Bayer Tree and Shrub for Fleas and Ticks

I use it and have friends that have been using it for yrs. i simply put it in a spray bottle and spray the dog down well. i have never heard of any side effects or anything bad coming from the use of this product. it works well and is cost efficient and more potent than advantage with the same activ...

Re: youth gun needed

I just purchased a yildiz 410 for my youngsters and am very pleased with it! It was the lightest model I could find weighting in at just 3 and 1/2lbs. it is a single shot and shoots very well. depending on the size of the youngster and the age, one may want to get a couple inches cut off the stock. ...

Re: us open pheasant trials?

The bird dog challenge is similar in rules to the us pheasant ch. However, the dog must actually establish a point and hold it for 3seconds to get credit for the point. The handlers are also not aloud to run, you may walk fast, but no running LOL. I own a couple seasons of the bdc and the dog work i...

Re: us open pheasant trials?

I watched this show Thur. and I must say that it was the worst dog work I have ever seen. I watched the pointing dogs and some of them literlly never came to a complete stop. The dogs would get birdy and slow down to a creep until they either flushed the bird or their owner flushed. It also was a po...

Re: When did All Age trials come about?

I believe William Brown has a book out on the history of field trials. It is very informative and goes from England to the start of trials in the U.S. very informative. I will try and find it and post the exact name of the book if noone else does first. I purchased it on ebay for very reasonable pri...

blank guns

I have a couple questions. I am going to start running in the NBHA and the USCSDA and need to know what type of gun should i purchase. I didn't know if I'd be better off with a .22 or .32 caliber or a primer pistol. In my research I have found that .22 and primers are much less expensive than the .3...

Hope this helps out some. I think they put out a good product at a fair price. If you do some homework and resear...

Re: steady to wing or shot?

Charlie you make a great point! First of all there is a huge difference between hunting and field trialing. I understand that many people use the same dog for both so you must demand your dogs remain staunch. I prefer a staunch dog myself that stays steady until I tell him to relocate. However, in w...

Re: Egyptian Open SD Championship

It is unbelievable how many entries Eisenhart and kinklear have in the trial. I am bored so I did the math lol. In the open derby there are 7 braces with one being open for a total of 13 dogs. Eisenhart has 6 entries and Kinklear 3 entries. In the open shooting dog there are 20 braces for a total of...

I couldn't agree with you more Neil, the pointers get a horrible rap. It seems like the general consensus is that pointers are high strung dogs that are not good pets and only hunt for themselves. My experience has been the exact opposite. I have young children that go out back with me when i feed a...

i think if you look at wiggin's miss sammie and wiggin's twist n shout while they do both have some go boy in them, they have more miller in them than anything else. addition's go boy was obviously a very good cross with the miller dogs. ferrell even bred the great lady bird directly to go boy! also...
