Re: Service Dog/Gun Dog
Thanks for the point of view ezzy333! I have talked to the director of the local service dog organization about the practicality of my dog doing both, and he was also skeptical until I explained exactly what I want the dog to do. The dog will primarily be retrieving doves and ducks, and sitting next...

Service Dog/Gun Dog
Hey everyone, I have been on here before asking about DD's and Boykins because I am interested in a versatility dog, and got a lot of great advice. So I thought I would ask the opinion of some of you out there on another issue. Since my last post I have been diagnosed with a dysautonomic cardiac con...

Ezzy,
Thanks! I will be out there in early September and will be getting in touch with you. Do you breed your Brits?

Re: Looking for breed suggestions
I would have to say a Boykin Spaniel. A good friend of mine has one and it is one of the hardest hunting dogs I have ever seen. Hunts close and steady, and the temperment is great for living in small areas. His is a 19 inch male, and he uses it for doves, pheasants, and ducks, and even rabbits (some...

Moving to Illinois - Looking for hunting Buddies
Hi! I will be moving to La Salle County in Northern Illinois later this summer and don't know a soul in the area. I am coming from NW Ohio and would like to continue hunting Waterfowl, Upland, and some deer. If you are in that area, I would really appreciate the opportunity to maybe join you on a hu...

Re: Puppy Shots
During the late spring, summer and early fall months. That is what my vet prescribed. Is that not common?

Re: Puppy Shots
This topic brought a question to my mind, so while we are on the subject I might as well ask and see what you all think. It seems that month by month, I give the same worming medication. With our horses, our vet and many publications suggest using 2 or 3 different kinds or brands of worming medicati...

Re: Brittany Question
Haha. Mind isn't made up yet. That is why I am asking you experienced guys  My mind is pretty well set on a Britt, I am just having too much fun watching you all go back and forth and thought I would stir things up. Thanks for the offer, Shadow. If I ever make it down there I may do it - but w...

Re: Brittany Question
I guess I want a dog that works pretty close. The fun in hunting for me is watching the dogs work, not hearing the dogs work - Probably why I am moving away from the beagles. Now, back to you guys that were going back and forth earlier about whether or not I should look into DD's as well for versati...

Re: Brittany Question
Thanks to everyone for your quick responses. Really great insight. I think a Britt will be a good choice for my hunting. I live in Northwest Ohio, so not a lot of upland birds, just doves, an occasional cock, and a lot of rabbit. I think it would be pretty unique to show my buddies a dog who's prima...

Brittany Question
Alright bird chasers, I hope you can help me out here! I have always hunted rabbits and hare with Beagles, but have recently become passionate about hunting birds. Mostly doves, and occasionally waterfowl. I am looking into adding a Brittany to my family to go with my new hobby. They are appealing t...
