Re: Dog whines in blind
If you don't like hunting with a whiner, then don't let it whine!! This requires discipline on your part. Whenever the dog makes a sound, command "No Noise"! And pinch his nose. Never, never, ignore it when he whines. It can be broken and is behavior I will NOT tolerate! Let him get away with it on...

Re: Dog whines in blind
Throw the poor guy a bumper when you miss, let him run around for a minute or two just to get that energy out of his system, no one says he has to stay in the blind all day long unless its for a retrieve. Above all else just try to ignore your dog while it whines, corrections can just make it worse ...

Re: Planting pigeons
Make a bunch of kick cages http://www.lcsupply.com/LCS-Kick-Cage/productinfo/KICK/ for the price of the one in this link you could make five or six. You can tie a string to them and flush the bird from a distance. If the dog does go after the bird he can't get it in his mouth like he could with a pl...

BUL hands down.
for the record: its not the gun that kicks, its the ammunition, and they make a wide variety of ammo.

Re: Dog Boxes
They are neither metal or wire but Rough Tuff kennels are bullet proof, affordable, and extremely versatile. I wrote them off until I actually saw one in person and was very impressed. The best part is the doors come off in less than a second and they open from both sides. The double door models are...

Re: Running an EP with a Mtn Bike
I just started roading with a Mtn bike and so far so good. I have access to a couple miles of private farm road so I will do three dogs at a time, two at heel and one running loose. One of those bike attachments might be useful but if your dog is trained to heel its not necessary IMO. I just lightly...

Re: Beepers
just make sure you condition your dog to the sound of a beeper before you strap it on his neck and go hunting. some of them are loud and will scare the heck out of your dog!

Re: Best boots for the rocks
Wore out a pair of Kenetreks in a year hiking, scouting & hunting for Chukar, Ruffs & Blue Grouse. I found that they do soak through and for the most part are an uncomfortable boot. Break-in period 50 miles my "bleep". I've had better luck with Danner Talus GTX & Meindl's. I find the Meindl's "r" o...

Re: Benelli SBE 2 12ga
I love my SBE2. I added a stronger recoil spring and magazine spring right out of the box ( simple home surgery that cost 20.00) and it has never failed. I only use it for duck hunting where its totally abused and neglected but still goes boom boom boom. Mine is the american with camo and black, you...

Re: 28 ga over a 20 ga
the 28 gauge is not for everyone. if you have a good pointing dog that is a strong retriever and the will power to not shoot at birds that out of range (35 yards is as far as I shoot with a 28) then the little 28 gauge is a lot of fun and very light to carry all day long. but it is a handicap in man...

Re: Gun advice
thats a pretty strong statement, too bad your dead wrong. everyone knows a 12gauge RRL makes a far superior boat anchor, than an oar.JKP wrote:I wouldn't get a Ruger in 12 gauge unless you need a gun to double as a boat oar. The 20 is OK.

Re: Hunting waterfowl and upland game western Washington
in western washington there are numerous pheasant release sites up and down the I-5 corridor, on the peninsula, and many of the islands. best bet would be to call WDFW to find out which ones are active. usually many of those pheasant release sites will be productive for water fowl later in the seaso...

Smart man!
the only RRL I would buy is the 28 gauge... but that would only happen if I was forced to choose.

I wouldn't concern myself over it. if you go through reputable breeders its about as common as winning megamillion tickets. I would be more worried about German wire hair Rage or Weim Rage.

I have always preferred smaller tidbits to larger chunks. that way the pup can snarf it down quick and doesn't waste time chewing and then looking for crumbles on the ground.

thanks for all the input.
I went to a local gunshop and shouldered the berettas... nice guns but the LOP is way too long for me. I ended up falling for a 20ga cynergy field of all things. Never thought I would ever contemplate a cynergy but that thing fit me perfectly.

comparing berettas?
Im looking into getting a new over and under, and i am vacillating between a beretta silver pigeon II or the beretta ultralight deluxe. besides price and engraving how much of a difference is there between these two guns? I looked at some browning citoris and while great guns they seem a bit on the ...

Re: no interest in retrieve or fetch
My gordon is not a terribly strong retriever. he will give me exactly 3 retrieves before his done with the game... make retrieving the most fun / quickest game that you guys practice. use a pheasant wing (very easy and very fun for the pup to pick - it wont have to fight with gripping a bumper or de...

I love this gun! got mine 3 weeks ago and it spits those cheap nasty RIO shot shells like they were premiums. the shim system that comes with the maxus has made this gun fit better than any other I have shot. plus if you take the plug out load it up and pull the trigger as fast as you can it sounds ...
