Re: If your buying a gundog????
I basically done this earlier this year. Had 3 dogs that (in my mind) were started dogs. Out of desperation I put them up for free. Some of them are in trials. Some are hunting. All are really good dogs. Unfortunately all the time and money you spend will only be lessons learned. Cut your losses and...

Re: PREDATOR CONTROL
The only birds I lose to Redtails are my young ones that don't know. BUT you can lose a whole coop to a chicken hawk in a short time. I have learned to cut my losses by not flying my birds in the morning. I also look for the sob's before I fly my birds and another thing you can do is watch and liste...

WHAT IS A STARTED DOG ?
Well after reading the post on BROKE DOGS I was wondering what peoples thoughts were on Started dogs. As a lot of you know I had some Brittany pups that I needed to find homes for. I stated that they were "started dogs" and some people thought that was misleading. To me I considered them started. If...

Re: Another update
This is a funny thread. The OP was just showing how good his pup is and added that he is going to go to the next level and get a e-collar. So from my point of view that is just fine. Next we'll be talking about tail-docking! I do use a collar and yes I use a cc. In todays world you all the tools you...
Re: Shot Size
The birds you will be using are no where close to The chukar we have out here ( NW). So if you can use lead than 7.5 will work fine. If you can't use lead than I would use 6's. Are culb will be using Chukar this year and the grounds we use is WMA so we have to use non-toxic and our club raised shot ...

Re: Upcoming season, hunting for huns
My experience with Huns is, they are an honest bird and the best for a young pup. They seem to hold the best of any bird I've hunted and for dog work I don't think there is a better bird. At the flush the whole covey will rise and there will be no stragglers. For me they are great to hunt but I most...

Any dog will do that if it has the chance. Only real solution is picking it up the feces right away. Personally i don't really care. It is less for me to pick up plus i don't kiss my dogs. :) That's the same with me. Except when I'm POed at them for something I run right out there and pick it up " ...

There's been an interesting story in the last couple months, a wolf collared in Oregon has traveled to Cali. which makes him the first wolf known to the state since the early twenties. Well if you haven't pick up your new Chukar gun yet than I wouldn't get in a big hurry. Season's over in most places. So I would start looking and start SHOOTING a lot of guns and I would pattern every one that I tried out. I would bet that 90% of shotgunners that hunt don't do this. With the except...

Wolves or Raptors ? Pick your poison. Since the 70's it seems that things started to change and now the end is in sight. Kind of " snowballed " in the last few years. You can't hunt ( or kill I should say ) game 24/7 /365 days a year and have a happy ending to this beautiful story. But I guess it co...

Coopers are the worst. They can wipe a coop in a week. I get them around here two times a year. In the spring and in the fall. Make sure you have a home for them before you breed (a long list). I just found homes for mine after 9 mouths. Corse they were Britts .
What I would call started dogs. So I'll be politically correct and have my bitch spayed in February after the end or hunting season.
