What I was getting at is that if you were to start winning with him in the write-up they don't put Max. They put his registered name. That's when it starts to matter.

Tru I think the reason you don't see many pointers in akc trials is that if a pointer guy wins then all you hear is "good for you, you beat a bunch of shorthairs" So it wouldn't even matter really.

Yep just an out of state license to hunt birds. You have to have other tags to hun big game and turkeys of course. But just the one time fee per year for birds.

There are some birds here too but you have to look for them.

This must be an AKC thing. This type of pre registered litters doesn't happen with FDSB bred pups. I would never register a guys pup for him. That should be his thing. Not mine.

I think Ferrel started the trend of all age dogs handling like that. He was something to watch. He could gather a dog anywhere anytime and send him where he wanted him to go.

Caleb I agree 100%. We both know that for some dogs by the time his nose has told him there are birds in the area it's too late. That was the point I was going towards. There are a lot of those type of dogs in the world and sadly enough alot of them are trialed and rather successfully I might add.

Goldenpatch this is what you should gather.

A dog being good on pen raised birds is training. A dog being good on wild birds is God given. That's the difference. Dogs that are good on both are real common in my part of the country.

You can have both. The advantage with pen raised birds is that you have a short nosed dog and still be competitive.

As for bigsugar's comment above. That statement is completely off base. If a horseback handler is "inconvenienced" by a walking handler then they are in the wrong sport. Walkers are part of the sport. If one cannot handle at the pace of a walker then they should run in AF where there are no walking...
