Re: Chewing Rubber

Get him a chew toy that he likes more than the rubber mats, if that ends up costing more than the mats then let him chew it I guess. I have dogs that chew my wooden dog houses to pieces and the only thing I can do is go in everday and sweep it out before I clean the runs, and keep patchin the house...

Flushing Birds Help

I took my boys out today to work on some flushing and it didn't go so well, so I wanted to see if I did something wrong. What happened was that the pigeons didn't fly like they should. I took the birds, spurn them a few times and then tucked their head under their wing. When the dogs went to flush t...

Re: Chewing Rubber

try Bitter Apple. Usually it is in a spray bottle. I had a friend that had some that was a gel , that worked great for him. I've tired all those things (bitter apple, hot sauce, vinegar, etc) and I think it makes the dogs like it more. I don't think you really can stop it. Chuck the rubber mats. We...

Chewing Rubber

I just recently built a kennel for my boys and laid down some barn rubber mats. In the past few days, I've notice the rubber mats getting chewed on. How do I go about stopping this? I don't have time to watch them 24/7 to correct it (when I do catch them, I give a firm NO), and when I do watch them ...

Re: Got my Pigeons, Now What?

You'll want to let them chase for a bit to build the prey drive, and then teach them to sit at the flush. The two non flyers (for a month or so anyway) will just be for a few retrieve practices, after that most wouldn't use them again until you Force Fetch. If you've been doing your due diligence w...

Re: Got my Pigeons, Now What?

First of all, what type of dog do you have? Most of the pointer guys are going to be leery of using the clipped wing pigeons because they fear bad habits may take root. I think they are fine for an intro, but you could have just done one bird, and left the rest so that they can fly and teach the do...

Got my Pigeons, Now What?

So I finally got a hold of some pigeons now what? My boys are 1 years old and have been exposed to Pheasants and finally pigeons. Today I took them out and clipped the wings of the pigeons to let them get used to them.

Where do I go from here?

Dog Kennels

I will be starting a job in the second week of July and I'm looking to building a kennel for my 2 Labs. I was wondering how big of a kennel I should look into getting. Also I was wondering if I should get 2 kennels or 1 big one? I also am considering getting bricks and laying it down because my dogs...

Re: Dog Owners who own more than 1 dog

I would put a secure (not going to pull out) tie out stake in the ground, with short chain (so he can't chew through it or get tangled in it). Put one dog on it when you're training the other dog...and ignore the staked ones bad behavior, don't talk to him, and don't let him off until he's done rea...

Re: Dog Owners who own more than 1 dog

I have another house just 20 feet for me who is able to hear it all and it sounds as if a dog is dyi...

Dog Owners who own more than 1 dog

I need your help!!!! Please don't tell me how I messed up and I'm not a good owner. Thanks! I have 2 Labs, I got both about a year ago, they are not litter mates (from 2 different breeders). Both my dogs have separation anxiety from each other. If one dog doesn't see the other dog he goes crazy. I c...
