If you don't force fetch, you will never have the "tools" to correct your dog for an error in retrieving (in your case dropping a bird). I look at it this way: in your case you can devote 4 to weeks of a thorough ff program to insure a lifetime of proper retrieves. Also, ff is way more than teachin...

I would def advise the FF, but understand the novice worry of the all dreaded FF... Its really not that bad... My recommedation to dropping the duck at shore to shake off, is Meet the dog at the shore, if you have to wade in a little, do so, grab the dog by the collar and do not allow the shake off ...

My Setter Lane is now 16 months and I am getting to see this guy really come into his own in the last 3 months of Training and Trialing... He fininshed 3rd in Open Derby couple weeks back... Pretty Proud of that. And as far as his field work, (steadyness is really coming along)... I run with some OK...

MIne run the yard, and i have a screened in porch were they tend to hang in the shade most of the day, and occasionally come home to a screen repair, and a small hole or two, but nothing i can't handle. It comes with the territory.

Worked water last night, Stick fetch fun, little "Duck" (Frozen bird) work from the bank.... I usually wait till about 8+pm to get out and do any yard work.

I even got spit on one time by a lady carrying her extremely over weight Pug. I woulda be drug away by the cops, prolly with some electric probes IN ME from a stun gun, after that lady spit on me. I walk both of my dogs daily with Ecollars on, and get some pretty crazy looks, but i just chalk it up...
