Re: Fort Hood Shooting--AGAIN
Well being a combat vet and serving in the Army for 8 years, spending time on different bases including Fort Hood I have always been a firm believer after the first shooting that all soldiers should carry their weapons with a 30 round magazine. All military personnel are taught rules of engagement n...

Re: F.F. Training
I forced fetch my dog and it took 8 weeks but totally worth it. I can say that at first it was difficult but I followed my breeder’s instructions and it worked out great. Like Jagerdawg said it will be a must for all my future dogs as well. Glad to hear your progress.

Re: Lumps/ Sore on neck?
Went to the vet and he thinks that he either got poked or cut by something and it got infected. I never noticed anything but I take his word for it. Antibiotics and some ointment and it'll clear up.

Re: Lumps/ Sore on neck?
Thanks for the replies, I did schedule an appointment for this monday. I'm not sure what it is or where it came from. The only collar he's had on him since last fall is a flat collar. I'll let you know what the vet says.

Lumps/ Sore on neck?
This last thursday I noticed a lump on the back of my dog's neck and after trying to examine it I cut the hair away and noticed a small sore. Then on friday I noticed he had another lump forming next to it and the original lump had lost the hair on it and is weeping puss. Any ideas what this may be?...

Re: DNR snare caught my dog
I have actually caught my own dog in my own traps and snares because I usually take him everywhere I go. It can be a scary thing but each time he is released he is fine. I never set conibears due to the fear of catching dogs. One thing I always do when getting permission on private hunting land is a...

Re: MN Pheasant Opener - Not looking good
Being from MN I know exactly how you feel, but I'll be out there just the same and with my hopes still high. I'm positive that I'll find a bird or two here or there. Either way its always good to get out and watch the dog work even if you come home empty handed. Like they say a bad day of hunting is...

Re: DT H2O collars?
I have the 1820 and really like it. The range seems really good and I like the easy of adjustment for stimulation levels. One down fall I see from it is the antenna on the transmitter comes loose if not tightened once in a while. I put a little lock tight on it and haven't had a problem since.

Re: thinning out varmints
Well also being a gun dog enthusiast I am a trapper and I can say that trapping will take care of all your varmint problems when done correctly by an experienced trapper. I often take care of problem coyotes and coons for local farmers and trapping seems to be the quickest and most time efficient wa...

Re: New Ammo
I shot Prairie Storm last year in SD in 20 gauge. I killed some pheasants with it but I didn't feel like it exceeded over my other shells and I wasn't overly impressed with the pattern in threw but maybe with Carlson's Prairie Storm Choke Tubes it would make a difference.

No I have not, I just walk him towards the next launcher. He is e-collar conditioned but I have never used it when he is working on birds.

Steady to wing, shot and fall?
I have a about a 15 month old GSP which I am trying to Steady to wing shot and fall. I have been working with him on carded pigeons in launchers and he is steady to wing and shot and then he jumps forward about a foot, stops and points again. Whenever he does it, I walk him away towards the next lau...

GSP with Diarrhea
The last couple days my GSP has been having really bad diarrhea and today I noticed that his scrotum has turned red and somewhat swollen. I assumed that the diarrhea was from a cucumber he was caught eating a couple days ago, but it hasn’t gone away yet. I’m planning on taking him to a vet on Friday...

Re: Louisiana or Southern Minnesota
I live directly east of Albert Lea about an hour and as far as Pheasants go around here it seems to be spotty. But the pockets that you do find have always produced really well. I also know the further west you head in MN the better it gets especially around Marshall MN and if you want to duck and g...

Re: Choke Tubes for Browning?
I get good patterns with a 2 3/4" in shell, I just had heard that the Prairie Storm was supposed to be a great upland hunting load and thought I would give them a try. I keep my gun really clean and I think I'll try some extended choke tubes just to see. If nothing else I'll stick to the 2 3/4. Than...

I have a GSP from Top Gun Kennels and could not be more satisfied. I did A LOT of research and found that they were the best fit for me. I have a 4 ½ month old GSP and I have been trying to teach him heel lately. Tonight was the 4th time and he seems to be having trouble picking up on it. I try to keep it to 10- 15 minute sessions.
