Don,
There's nothing I can say to ease your pain, but from my observation of several years on this forum, he was blessed with as good a human as you were with such a fine dog.

You might want to also check around for a Browning B80 in 20 gauge. They have 21 inch barrels and a straight stock. This a semi-automatic that seems to fit youths and some women fairly well. You should be able to find one in your price range. I bought one for my son several years back and it was a p...

Re: Is Texas the poorest state for public land?
Depends upon what you call public land. While there is very little federal land there is a lot of state owned land in Texas. The vast majority of state land is leased to individuals who pretty much benefit from grazing rights, sub leasing hunting access rights etc. Mountaineer was spot on with his o...

Why are you taking stool samples to a vet? Has a vet seen your dog? If so did the vet say your dog was too thin?
I can't tell from the photos, but most vets would say they like to be able to see a few ribs when they are assessing a dog's condition.

I don't know about Alabama, but in Texas it is generally too warm in dove season to utilize a dog in retrieving. There is a late season where it might be possible. How you hunt is another factor to consider. If you hunt more or less alone or separate yourself from other members of a hunting party by...

I can't speak for the rest of the country, but from my observation the decline of bobwhite quail in Texas has been increasingly impacted by the proliferation of deer hunters and deer feeders and also to an extent by the proliferation of feral hogs in much of the traditional quail habitat.

From my experiences shooting a rabbit being chased by a dog would make for a very risky proposition for a dog.
Perhaps I don't understand, are you going to teach the dog to point a rabbit and then be steady through the shot?

What do you hunt and at what range do you shoot? Is your shooting sedentary or are you walking? Do you hunt in rough country?
