Re: Two pups

Thanks for the input everyone. Last chance before I pull either the trigger or the cord on the 2nd pup. 1st pup, "Penny" is doing well. 10 weeks old, fitting in nicely with the family. Finally has some hallway retrieves with gusto all the way into my lap this morning with gusto- "by george, I think ...

Re: Want to get dog in shape!?!? Try this bike attachment.

There's always the treadmill option. Here is a video sent to me of a GSP pup I bred getting in shape on the treadmill! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SV6icniVZqA . "Eight" will happily cruise on the treadmill for 30+ minutes if you let him. Too funny. I used a roading harness and a mountain bike for...

Anybody own a GSP out of NFC FC CC Papion?

Anybody out there own a GSP out of NFC CC Papion? What are your thoughts? How is the personality, behavior around house and family, and of course fieldwork/trainability? Does your dog have more point or retrieve or are you happy with both? What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance for the input! :D

Re: the next generation.....

So you kept two? How did your training and socialization go, having two pups at the same time? Are you glad you kept two from this desirable breeding or do you wish you had picked and put all your efforts into one?

Re: traping pigeons

Good info on flipping the trap upside down. Can you ever get them on the ground this way or do you have to go to their roost?

Re: Introduced to guns!

IMO it is best to have the pup doing something when being introduced to gunfire, after a bird, eating, retrieving, something at least. I personally would never stake out my dog while at the gun range in the first year . Just in case. No point in ruining a good dog you have put so much into. A dog wh...

Re: Two pups

One thing having 2 young dogs will do is help you from over working one Thanks! Good point too. I thought of this, that it can be encouraging to be training multiple dogs because you have more opportunites for success on a daily basis. If one dog needs you to back off for a bit, you can still work ...

Re: Field Trials rigged?

I have had good experiences with AKC pointing trials. Just the weekend variety, but if you have an outstanding dog and they handle kindly, sometimes I think you get an even more fair judgement because you have no history, no politics, etc. In such a situation as this, when your dog does an amazing j...

For training Labs starting with a young pup like you are, I always have liked and recommended either Game Dog, or Water Dog. Both books are by Richard Wolters.

Two pups

Has anyone ever successfully taken on the training of two gundog pups at the same time with good results? I have trained plenty of GSPs, but usually one at a time, I have also bred and raised 3 litters over the years and have started multiple pups before, training them up until they sold. I would co...

Re: Pros and Cons of getting a dog online

While you may track down a breeder online, I would go watch their dogs run in some events. Field trials or hunt tests, it doesn't matter. Also, you can meet a lot of great connections off the beaten path at a performance event who may not have an online presence. I have learned about awesome breedin...
