FYI... a couple of replies were lost in a board glitch. Thanks for your responses. I decided to go with Kent #3 3" Steel. I'll use this load for Phez. If I hunt public preserve- I'll use my IC. That PM Choke really reaches out too far to risk using it in an area where other hunters may be close.

Our other two dogs have not got sick. Canine Flu is suppose to be very contagious. I wonder if the vet got this diagnosis correct. Interesting... because my Rem. 1100 fits me very well. I think I'll do some measuring with a tape to examine the difference.If there is a "reach" problem then it is either clothing or mount caused.

Reducing the stock
I'm considering reducing the length of the stock on my 20 G Gas Auto Loader by two or three inches. I'm having to reach forward too much for my comfort. My thought was to use a band saw.
Is this a workable idea? If so, any suggestions?

Might try both loads with different chokes I hope to pattern the #3s in August. BTW- what is your favorite lead load. I've been using the Remington 2/3" #5 Pheasant loads. Let us know after you pattern in each load with your gun & choke selection. Last year, I patterned the 3" #2 with my IC Mossberg choke and sprayed shot everywhere. Then patterned with my Brileys IC and got an excellent pattern at 30 and 40 yards. I expect the same with #3 Kent loads. I'm hoping for...

Help with pellet count in pattern
This year I'm switching from 20 gauge 3' 7/8 oz #2 kent to 20 gauge 3" 7/8oz #3... how many more pellets will I average in my pattern by using the #3 as opposed to the #2?
I'll be using this load on upland hunts on state regulated land and for ducks.

If your dog is a flusher... I think it would be OK.
If your dog is a pointer... I'd think twice about it. In my experience...doves don't hold and they don't let the dog get very close. I could see this causing a pointer to bust birds.

I own a DT for duck hunting... also use it on the sises' lab to for upland. Never had a problem. My understanding is that you don't want to cut the collar. Follow the directions or pic on your box and you should be fine. There should not be any loop exposed. I never had or heard of a safety concern....

She always gets a small area (little smaller than a dime) of skin abraided off of her large pad on both feet. As she has got older... she get them much quicker. On this hunt, they were off before she got to the main hunting field. Next year we are going back to boots.... though she has kicked boots ...

Our older GSP is prone to sore feet... usually a few hotspots on the front paws.
I've read these can be treated with super glue so the dog can continue to hunt. Anyone ever heard of this?

The answer is "Yes". You won't know until you've done the training, but the determing factor is most often HOW the work is done. My 3 year old will retrieve when hunting alone... but will not retrieve if the 8 year old beats her to the bird.
