I hunt in PA as well....Dependent on temperatures, both of PA's woodland venomous snakes may be found outside of their dens until mid-late November. Typical habitats include blowdowns and slash piles.....otherwise known as grouse habitat.

I just bought some from petsmart last week, the box does not say "new" from what i can tell. Looks like 45% Permethrin....3% Methoprene.....is the new formula a higher does of methoprene? It definitely says no cats on the box.

I think you'd be fairly close to the Buckeye Chapter of NAVHDA. Their chapter website seems to be down for a month or more now, but maybe they'll get it back up soon. If not, The Shenango chapter meets in PA about 2 hrs from Akron.

Going through the first heat with my shorthair now...I thought she was done, but it must be a split heat. Its really not so bad if you keep some underwear on them when there in the house and away from intact males. I use little boy boxers. Put them on backwards and put the tail through the fly hole....

Not sure which of you guys are in Ligonier, I grew up up there. Seven Springs not much further....If you guys wanna get together and look for grouse in the Laurel Highlands, I'd be game....had a tough first season with my shorthair, but we started zoning in one them by the end of the season.

We used Vectra 3D last year and didnt find a single tick on the dog, although a few on myself. At least that tick remover I bought is getting some usage somewhere...lol. I grew up in the woods, and never had a tick attached to me till a few years ago, now it seems like all the time.

I saw a video where you can put a sock with a hole cut in the end over the dogs head and then cut a flap for the non-affected ear to be free. The bleeding ear is held tightly against the head and thus cannot shake. Cant remember the name of the DVD but it involved field first aid for dogs.

It's in the teens here in Pittsburgh right now. I think hunting or training on birds would be ok, but I just went out to try and do some yard work, and my pup was glued to my hip and definitely did not want to stand in one place for very long. Gonna be colder with subzero wind-chills soon.

Here in PA, when the game commission lost a bunch of their birds, so did the other sellers. Plus many people have been hitting up the preserves rather than hunt the limited number of state stocked birds.

It's interesting to see the synergistic effect of the deer feeders are having on quail. Not only is there the aflatoxin issue, but they are attracting raccoons, skunk, feral hog that either prey upon on inflict disease upon quail.

I just got a roading harness for my year old GSP. The problem is, she's too small for it. Everything fits ok except for the band that wraps under her belly which I can almost wrap the whole way around to her back.
