Birds are finally back
For the last 4 years I just about gave up on hunting quail and chucker here in California. I scouted some of the areas I use to hunt. Saw several coveys of quail and one covey of chucker. Well I didn't make it on opening day but during that week I was able to take 8 quail and 1 chucker. I was very p...

I always made sure my dogs had enough of water and were able to cool down. Never had a problem with a dog over hea...

Re: Hot days and Bird Dogs
Well went down and started a new dog food. I purchased the Nutro brand. 30 % protein and 20% fat. Well the dog started to do better the next day. It was still a little warm out but he did much better. Got him into a group of quail, about 40 in the covey. I train him on a dry river bottom. It was nic...

Hot days and Bird Dogs
I purchased a short hair pointer two years ago, the dog just did not work out for me. He was an excellent dog easy to train but he just did not seem to have the energy to hunt all day. I live in Bakersfield Ca and it gets very hot out here. I had a Britney and he was an excellent dog. He would go al...
