It may be worth trying a foster dog - younger & opposite sex. The survey gives the option to write in an activity so I simply added hunting. I've done most of the other activities listed on the survey but, hunting requires the most athletic ability by far and is the only one that has ever caused injured my dogs.

It's pretty easy to do, American Field is recognized by the AKC. The following link should give you the info needed...unless by chance you have an AF registered Irish Setter, then you are out of luck if I understand correctly.

For what's it worth...I kind of wish we had done this when our first dog died. Our GWP adored Andi and ran around the house trying to find her for months after we had to put her down at the vet's office. For our other dogs - no.

Depends on the testing organization. For AKC it has to be 6 months, for NAVHDA there is no minimum age.

Anyone looking at your dog's pedigree will want to see the VJP, HZP, and VGP scores of the dogs listed on the pedigree. Maybe any NAVHDA testing should be listed as well.

Our dog failed a NA test --- he's a VC today. It's one day of your young dogs' life - don't make if more than it should be. The pheasant track is the part that get's most young dogs.

Both of our GWPs are hypothyroid too - which is why I was at the Dodds seminar. It's a manditory test for wirehairs. DD's on the other hand, don't have the problem.

Both the wirehairs chew up sticks and the little DD pup has joined right in. She ran into the house carrying a log the other night. I don't know how she managed to hold it and why she didn't tip over it was so large.

Mark ran our DD at five months also. There was no pressure put on her, no training. We just let her run around & be a puppy but in July it was clear she was ready to test & the MN chapter had an opening in August.
