Re: Depression Ideas/experiences?
It may be worth trying a foster dog - younger & opposite sex. Our first GWP (Oakley) was very attached to the older dog we had (Andi) and when Andi died she would search the house for her every time we came home for several months. However, we did have Oakley's son and she didn't seem to dwell on it...

The survey gives the option to write in an activity so I simply added hunting. I've done most of the other activities listed on the survey but, hunting requires the most athletic ability by far and is the only one that has ever caused injured my dogs.

It's pretty easy to do, American Field is recognized by the AKC. The following link should give you the info needed...unless by chance you have an AF registered Irish Setter, then you are out of luck if I understand correctly.

I think that if you're only going to kennel the dog while you're at work it isn't a big deal. We always do that with our dogs (DD/GWP) until they are old enough to be trusted in the house. Kenneling is only bad if you stick them outside & forget you have a dog until hunting season. Day care is a gre...

I sent you a PM of a site with many, many griff owners - if you decide to get one they would be able to steer you towards the best breeders. It seems to me that the very best source of information to your questions is the breeder you spoke to -- he raises both DD's and Setter's. Does he grouse hunt? Why does he raise both breeds - are the setters his grouse dogs? I'd say noses between DDs, GSPs, and setters are not significantly differen...

Yes there are DD with no beards, below is a picture of ours who has a coat like you've described also referred to as a 'slick' coat.
