Some dogs will go forever and check in when you call them, some will continue running as long as they hear you. Do what works for your dog.

Blown Pads Help
Dog is running in his breed championship in a few days - completely ripped 2 of his pads off today. He was still going strong, but when I watered him at 45 I noticed a small limp. Lots of blood and front right and back left pads are completely gone on the main pad, just a flap over hanging the raw p...
Re: Flagging?
I think flagging comes primarily from a lack of intensity. The problem is what caused that lack of intensity and it can be too much handling during the pointing process, possibly the dog lacks a little in desire, or fear of punishment if the dog has been corrected too severely for a mistake such as...

There is more to it then range. Yah, but I've seen some real dang good GSPs that go and hit everything, don't know how they could have done any better, besides having a long, straight up tail on point. In terms of getting to the birds, I would think there are GSPs out there that can do it just as w...

Re: could another breed run the nat champ?
Nothing against the other breds but in my opinion you will never see anything other than a pointer or setter win the National or any other big all age horseback field trial. The dogs have to run and cover a ton of ground. I sure hope I dont offend anyone as I have had two britts that were good wild...

Don't overdo the birds. Make it the funnest thing in the world, not a boring routine. It's fun to watch them get into birds, but no need to rush it. Take them everywhere to help them gain confidence in every situation.

My GSP is starting to range a little too far for me and he's not good enough to hold point for a long period of time. How can I control his range until his hold gets stronger? What is the big deal? There are lots of closed trials. Why is this one getting picked on? Because the odds of a spinone winning a major at an all breed trial is almost 0. SO? I have little problem with a closed breed trial, I wouldn't want my wins at them though to be honest. And regardless if it is open or closed, the first place performance should be worthy of a blue, not some lower standard.

I guess I always looked up to the fc, as a goal that took a stylish, hard running dog who I would love to walk behind anytime. Agreed! There are no breed standards for FT and if a spinone/vizlsa/pointer whatever it is does not run hard, find birds, clean bird work, I wouldn't place it. If the spinon...

So when it says "Number of Entries: 82 Number of Competitors: 73", Does that mean 9 scratches? Yes, I believe it means that at least 9 people paid entries that did not start. So 82 entries meant that they were planning on 41 braces and if you give each 40 minutes that is 1640 minutes of field trial...

All you can do is NOT support their trials in the future. If they didn't want you there, you probably weren't gonna leave with a ribbon anyway, so they saved you travel & entry expenses that you can now use to support a club that DOES want your entry. That is the plan going forward. It will only hu...

That link shows dogs that STARTED, not those that were entered. I have much more respect for a club that closes there trial for their own reasons then a club that runs an open all breed trial and then tells you that they are full and your pointer can't run.
