The Michigan population is steadily increasing. They are becoming somewhat of a pest to grain farmers; destroying acres at a time with a big enough flock. I was recently informed the DNR will be issuing a limited number of permits this fall; maybe I'll get lucky!

Any dog that rolls in sh** is the hardest to clean up! Any long-haired dog seems to be a pain unless they have been shaved. How to handle a collar wise dog?

My 18 month old pup handles well while wearing the e-collar, but doesn't listen quite as well without it. I'm not very experienced, but I think she has become "collar wise". What can be done about this? I would eventually like to run her in some hunt tests and field trials where e-collars can't be u...

Re: Shed hunting?

It depends on what "level" you want your pup to shed hunt at. If you want a competition shed hunter, then it would probably take away from its bird focus. If you want a dog to find antlers on an off-season hike, then it shouldn't effect its bird hunting. Competition shed hunting dogs live to find an...

My Vizsla is a soft dog. I can't lose my temper or raise my voice; all it accomplishes is her shutting down. I just have to be patient and read her body language. I am having a hard time finding flight conditioned quail in my area (as is everyone). I do have a breeder close by that has mature, non-flight conditioned birds. My pup gets a similar bite mark from black gnats. When they are at their peak, her belly will be covered after spending 20 minutes in the yard. If it goes away within a day I'd say don't worry about it, but if it persists longer, take him in.
