Re: Retraining an old dog
If you did attempt to re-train. How many years of service do you expect to get in return? I suspect they are just old and lazy. I know that feeling. Good Luck........Cj Being as how I'm older and slower myself I think I might get another year or two with them. Mostly hunt hedgerows and two-tracks s...

Retraining an old dog
I've 2 12yo griffons. They hunted a bird farm with me till they were 4/5 and we've been out of the field since. Tried to take them out last year and this but they act like we are out for a stroll even when I've seen birds in the area. When I first trained them I was able to purchase birds from the f...

Re: When is the end?
So my wife was able to make the appointment late enough that I was able to take him. As I suspected the vet felt that it was a neurological issue (not pain) that was causing his problem and basically said unless I wanted to spend big$ to fix him their wasn't much he could do for me. He said wait and...

When is the end?
Like everyone I really love my dog. Unfortunately when I let him out last night his back end was all wobbly and he is finding it hard to walk on our tile floors without his back end sliding out from underneath. My wife is taking him to the vet today. Hopefully this is something easy - he's only 7yo....

Winter camping tips
I'm planning to go tent camping/ice fishing around Lake Tahoe in Janurary and would like to take my 2 Griffons with me. Being house dogs all their lives and one having hair that's pretty thin to begin with anybody got suggestions? Things to take with us? Ways to keep them warm during the day/sleepin...

Re: No Lead for predation hunting-your next
Well gents, I too have been down this road but have been swung over to the other side. Living in the Republik of Kalifornia someone decided I needed to use non-lead ammo for big game and varmint hunting in about half our state. I was MAD my 30.06 use to be $20 a box now $50. At 2.50 every time I pul...

Re: Wire Haired Pointing Griffon....
There is not a better family pet, IMO, than the Griffon. Mine are fantastic with my children. Ditto - I've had two babies since the dogs showed up and the Boys are great around them. We purchased them from a breeder in San Andreas CA. (Not too far for us) We did look at some more distant breeders a...

Re: New years eve hunt 2010
Where were you hunting? Looks like southern Ca/Arizona to me but I have to say the 10deg mark would keep me at home!
Nice Pics BTW.

ATTN Northern Ca Guys......
Inspired by This post - I'd Like to Propose a Loosely Organized Hunt For MLK Weekend (Jan 15-17). Since the Quail/Chukar season runs out on the 30th it will be a swell way to close out the season. I've read a few suggestions on places to go and have planned on going to check them out myself but I'm ...
Re: chukars
There are lots of chukars in California, they are just in a tight geographic area. Mostly the eastern Sierra slope deemed "high desert" and the greater concentrations are to the north. SORRY I had to edit this...I meant that this area of California is best because this is where the Nevada pointer g...

Re: Failure to Retrieve
Took both of em out saturday to round up some liberated phez. They both did very well in the locating but Neo as usual wanted nothing to do with the retrieving part of the job. His Brother did wonderfully though and brought back 4/5 (The other got scooped up before we gave him a chance). I tried a l...

Failure to Retrieve
I have 2. 4 Yo Griffons They point really well and love to find pheasants, but I'm having a bugger of a time getting them to bring them back. Noah will bring me back live ones - But only if I walk the other way. (I guess He figures the dead ones I can get myself) The other one, Neo, will chase them ...
