Re: New to training gundogs...

.one thing is dont visualize too hard what you want this pup to be as an adult dog because if you only concentrate on end results you will expect too much from him!! So true, I think that was my problem in the beginning. And also agree with the above posts.....read all you can and youtube is helpful.

Re: New to training gundogs...

First of all I'm fairly new to training myself and Im sure some experts will post some very usefull info but I can pass on a few things that my 5 1/2 month lab has taught me. At that age I wouldn't worry much about the retreiving and certainly not the gun yet. At this point just have fun with the pu...

Re: Toilet Training at Night

Im new to training and learned a good lesson with my 5 month old lab. I always let her out in a fenced yard to take care of her business off lead. After having her for about 3 months we went on a 8 hour trip and she would have nothing to do with going to the bathroom on lead. The 8 hour trip turned ...

Re: Lab Pup Retrieving, Stubborn or Forgetting?

Im in the same situation, 24 week old lab. Loves to retrieve toys but doesnt care to much about a bumper. She has been that way since I got her. Since reading the great info on here and other places I have had to train MYSELF a few months ago to take it easy on here. I expected way to much from her ...

Re: Another lab question??

Thanks birddog, that is exactly where Im at. A lot of bonding and having fun with short training sessions. She has the retrieving a toy down very good and really enjoys it so I guess Im moving along ok. What would be the best way to intoduce her to a pigeon? Also I should have a few duck wings in th...

Another lab question??

First I would like to say thank you for the responses that I got from my other questions but I have some more. Where should I be at 4 months? Basic commands are down good, still working on "come" off lead a little. She sits, stays and retrieves well with a bumper for awhile and then losses a little ...

Re: Lab pup question

Thanks....yea it is alittle scary but i kinda of figured she would learn and slow herself down after choking. I will give one of those a try and see if it helps.

Lab pup question

I have a 4 month old lab that engulfs her food and doesnt chew it. She usually stops at mid bowl to catch her breath and then continues on. Today she stopped looked alittle funny and threw it all up whole. the other day she started choking on it and took a few seconds to clear herself. I would guess...

Re: new with lab question

Thanks guys, I guess i probably already knew the answer, but does that mean when you take them out for a good run/play you always have them on a lead or you just don't give a command and just let them get back to you when they want? I guess what I'm trying to say is I like to walk her through the wo...
