Re: new with lab question

Both comments are right on the money. First of all don't be in a hurry. Take your time and don't get wrapped up in the guidelines of what some authors have recommended. They are just that guidelines. Learn to tune in and read your dog and they will let you tell you when they are ready to learn a con...

Re: When in training should the e-collar be brought in?

In a nut shell? An e-collar is used for correction for a concept that is completely understood. All of your fundamental concepts should be solid before you collar condition. The best way to think about a e-collar is that is does not teach or train a dog to do anything. It is used for correction. Gar...

The best trainers? The dogs are the best trainers you can possibly learn from. If your learn how to communicate with them they will teach you more than any human can. My mentors have all been dogs.

Re: Words of Wisdom

Learn how to think and communicate like a dog. It will do more for your success as a trainer than all of the methods put together.

Re: Pigeon training problem

There is a couple of things you can do. The first thing is get your dog bold towards birds. I would use one that cannot be a threat in any way. Usually that is one that is dead. Introduce your pup to it.Teach them what they smell like and feel like. Make it a game and tease them with the bird and to...

Re: Training and Genetics

It is a very interesting question. I dont think there is any doubt that there are individual traits passed on from both parents. As far as learned responses being developed in a parent and then passed on I don't know? What about attitude? Is that passed on? I would think so but of course the environ...
