What would your puppy do if you left him home unattended with free reign of the house for eight hours? We came home last night to realize that we had forgotten to crate our six month old drahthaar pup and had given him free reign of our house for 8 hours. Fortunately, he did not poop, pee, or vomit ...

We went hiking yesterday to try to find some wild birds for Artus to point. We didn't find any grouse but it wasn't from a lack of trying. I should have a new blog post up about it today or tomorrow. http://i1085.photobucket.com/albums/j425/jareds44magnum/PART951309676760498.jpg http://i1085.photobu...

I've been very impressed for the most part. My experience in dogs before this has been in owning and training cattle dogs. I will say that this has been harder than cattle dogs in some ways, mostly due to the different natures of the jobs the dogs are doing. Hunting dogs are by nature more independe...

He does have a lot of zip to him Sharon. I've been impressed with his drive. Cajun, that puppy hassles the shepherd all dying long if he can but then ignores her if he's tracking or fetching with me. She helped quite a bit with him entering the water because she's not worried about it. Once he reali...

I treated him with frontline when he was 10 weeks old but nothing since. I think it's the dog hair and I'll keep an eye on him for dehydration and clean up the dog hair daily. No more vomiting for now so I think he'll be alright.

I had my pup chipped as soon as I got him at 8 weeks old. He yipped when it was inserted but it was only slightly more than when he got his shot. I guess some dogs react differently than others. I am much more comfortable knowing he has both a tattoo and a chip.

I always compost pigeon and chicken poo first because it will burn your garden if you put it on fresh. It works really good after it's composted.

Thanks for all the replies. Maybe I'll offer to help train his dog because he works out of town a lot. Either that or I'm probably going to have to find a nice way to break it to him that I don't want to hunt my dog around his dog where it will pick up bad habits.

So what I'm gathering from these posts is that it's possible to hunt pointers and flushers together but difficult to do and potentially hazardous to the dogs. I guess it's better to stick with one style or the other.
