[/quote] I'll keep that in mind. Last year was my first year doing the waterfowl thing in any kind of meaningful way. My wife wasn't too stoked on the thousands of dollars of decoys that were all of the sudden pouring out of the shed  but she got over it. Opens Oct. 3. Let me know if you have a...

As mentioned, look for water sources, especially wet meadows in large expanses of sage brush. Dogs that cover lots of ground are obviously helpful when you are trying to find the birds in the first place. As far as table fare, young birds are delicious. As Reba mentioned, cook the breasts as you wou...

Hunting pheasants in ND this year, a peregrine falcon followed me around for about 20 minutes. I walked in to my dog on point, and a hen got up...which was nailed by the falcon! Blues (I still call them that), are odd birds. They breed and nest in the lower elevation areas, then move higher as the summer progresses into fall/winter. They spend their winters not far below the timberline, surviving on conifers and perching in trees, often near ridgelines and cornices. I think...

There are lots of sage grouse in SW Wyoming, but no sharptails or huns. The sage grouse have done pretty well the past few years, but I am not sure how they fared over the winter, as we had record snow. I would guess the real key will be how the spring weather will affect the broods. Regardless, the...

Bells are way more obnoxious than beepers IMHO....if you run it on the point only mode. I often turn if off remotely, then turn it on to find out where the dog is. I always turn it off once the dog goes on point.
