Re: Dog Bit - Now What?

Are you sure your dog doesn't have a painful hip? You said the girl hit him on the rump (".My daughter yelled at the dog and gave it a shove.") Because she was sitting she got it on the face, otherwise it would have been less serious. I'm pretty sure the dog doesn't have a painful hip. Of course if...

Re: Dog Bit - Now What?

A lot of what you are describing IMO paints the picture of a dog that is fearful. Could the dog have been startled by the pieces of the game and fear bit ? My Wife and I have been scratching our heads on this one. I've had one of my boys attacked and bitten by a neighbors german shepard. The dog ha...

Re: Dog Bit - Now What?

I agree with the advice given also, but would like to add to it. You wrote, It likes to bark at strangers (normal I think) walking down the street. It is an inside dog and barks at noises outside the house - like a trash can rattling in the wind (normal I think) Now go ahead and correct me if neede...

Re: Dog Bit - Now What?

Thanks everyone for your replies. We'll see how it goes with the dog going forward. In talking to my Wife and kids, it sounds like the dog was more provoked and did not just walk into the room and bite my Daughter. She pushed the dog and yelled at it and that's when it responded. Of course that is s...

Re: Dog Bit - Now What?

I think the knee jerk reaction is to get negative with the dog but probably not a long term solution. I would have your daughter become the primary care giver, meaning your daughter should feed and walk the dog, and before putting the bowl down have the dog sit, give its paw, whatever things you ha...

Dog Bit - Now What?

OK - I've got a WPG that will be 1 yr old in a few days and she bit my 10 yr old daughter on the chin the other day while I was at work. This dog has always been very afficitionate and friendly - but... It likes to bark at strangers (normal I think) walking down the street. It is an inside dog and b...

Re: Stressfull Day for Me & My Dog

Actually my Tritronics is not a training collar, but rather a protect my investment collar. I only use it if the dog decides to flip me the bird (no pun intended) and take-off - which has happened. A slight buzz, she is back at my feet and back to being all business.

Thx

Stressfull Day for Me & My Dog

Took my 10 month old griff out for some exercise today and had a good day to start. It is the time of the month when we get our monthly bath (she stays indoors with us) and I figured one more sweaty run before we smell good again. All went well and we got back to the truck. I took off the Tritronics...

Re: E-Collar & Check Cord Questions

OK - so you train the dog to come-in with the check cord on and that's fine, but at some point you have to loose the check cord and let the dog range out. .... My dog is starting to learn that when off the check cord and out of reach that ignoring my come-in command is a pretty cool thing to do.......

Re: E-Collar & Check Cord Questions

what kind of dog is it? I would say put em' back on the checkcord and nail his "bleep" when he doesn't come back in. If it's still not working then I would probably move to an e-collar. I moved to a collar too quickly when starting out, wish i hadn't that quick Dog is a WPG. i picked-up a Tritronic...

OK - so you train the dog to come-in with the check cord on and that's fine, but at some point you have to loose the check cord and let the dog range out. How do you make the dog come-in when off the check cord unless they just want to or you ping them with an e-collar? My dog is starting to learn t...

How Do You Deal With a Dog In Heat?

OK - so I put up a post a while back with regards to spaying a female dog at 6 months or 18ish months - lots of responses. My pup is 5 months old now and I've got a decision. I'd like to wait, my Wife would like to have the dog spayed. My part of the dog is a bird dog. The other half of the dog is f...

What Age to Spay?

What is the latest thought/recommendation on spaying a dog. My vet says 6 months, I have always thought that to be the age, but I have read some articles that suggest waiting until 18 months.

What the latest you are hearing on what age to spay?

thx

Re: Grouse Dog Range?

The big problem I have in the terrain I hunt is that it is not flat or even rolling hills. Mostly it is steep inclines and valleys with a logging roads running through. I generally walk the logging roads and direct the dog forward and from side to side with a combo of whistle and hand signals. Many ...

E-Collar With GPS???

Does anyone make an all inclusive e-collar with gps? Reading through some of the posts, it makes me wonder how many collars you have to put on your dog to be complete. 1. Regular leather collar with dog tags and a d-ring for the leash or check cord 2. Blaze orange collar so the dog won't get shot 3....

What Dog Food and Why?

I've read a lot of posts on dog food.

What dog food do you use and why? Is it price or nutrition, rice, chicken, etc.

What makes you buy the dog food you use?

I noticed 4health at Tractor Supply - never used it. Iams, pedigree, purina dog chow, purina pro plan.

So many to choose from.

How Large is a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon?

I am looking at purchasing a Griffon pup that is some distance away. My options are to drive, air-ship or fly to and bring the pup back as carry-on. The pup would be required to be 8 weeks for any type of flying. I am leaning towards flying to pick-up the pup and returning with the pup as carry-on. ...
