Why not look at an 1100? You could pickup an older one easily in the price range you're looking to spend. Same dimensions as your 870, so you'll be familiar with it. I go to ND every year and take pointing dogs.. It depends on how you hunt them.. in big open fields it may be tough for your dog to pin them in range.. You need to hunt old homesteads, ditches, tree rows, and nasty thickets.. our dogs point grouse, pheasant, partridge and the birds hold well enough...

I went and talked to a pro. Spent hours working commands and obedience. Then I sent my dog to a trainer for a month to be intro'd to birds, gun, ect. I got lucky with my first britt, its all he needed. He's not steady to shot, but he'll slam a covey of huns like theres no tomorrow and will relocate ...

Farming isn't bad for birds. Subsidy farming (and the over production of corn in a failed ethanol experiment) is bad for PEOPLE, not only is our tax money being squandered but we aren't even seeing a return on it. I don't think anyone would say farming is bad for birds, the environment, or anything ...

Ok does anyone have an alternative to the huntingpsmaps for determining land ownership? I have one for the state I live in and its great, however I need some maps for OR, ID, and NM...and im not going to spend $300 for SD cards for my Astro.

Any suggestions? Maybe BLM offices?? Will they mail them?

I had one. It was light for sure. Seemed as well built as any other CZ shotgun. They aren't the most refined/beautiful O/U's or SxS's.....but they sure as heck work.

I've owned a bobwhite, ultra light, upland, and woodcock. All were nice shotguns and went BANG.

What's wrong with the ones they sell at Walmart? The price is nice and they are made in the USA. Obviously not as tough as the aluminum ones but if I can make one last 10 years I've paid $180... Also, if you're dead set on a semi auto. I would personally go with the AR15 platform and the 6.5grendel. Plenty for whitetails......and a few have used it to put down elk (including one Mark Larue).

My Owen seems to work just fine. It was pricey (to me), but it will last forever....

I have mine mounted about 10" off the bed of my Tacoma (that has an ARE shell). Seems to keep the pups cool in the heat, and warm in the cold.

I know some people use labs. Personally as long as you can handle the dog, I don't see why you couldn't. Would I? I'll be a downer :D ...can't imagine a single positive that would arrive from using a bird dog, pointer or not, to chase coyotes . . Not everyone uses hounds to run yotes. Some people use decoy dogs to bait them in close.... But since it sounds like you know everything about everything....whatever....
