I agree that heart plays a role in running in hot conditions. However running in the heat and finding birds in the heat are two different things. A dog with a big heart may tough it out well in the heat but that dog can't scent birds when he is gasping for air. The key is breeding and conditioning....

If your dog is a flusher... I think it would be OK. If your dog is a pointer... I'd think twice about it. In my experience...doves don't hold and they don't let the dog get very close. When a dog is confused it will revert back to what it knows best or learned last. If sit is the dogs best command it will do it as a default to the command that is new being given. A launcher gives you more control of the situration. If he moves after making scent, you pop the bird. Golden, I don't think you understand how breeds were started. The crossbreds you talk about were never out of the kennel where they were being bred.
