I deal with this issue with fosters a lot. I'd crate her quite a bit while home. Feed her in the crate. Play and exercise her a lot still, but when she comes inside, she goes into the crate. Do a google search for "separation anxiety" and adopt those methods they suggest for "leaving" and "coming ho...

Be careful that you don't put him in situations where he will catch pen-reared birds. If he gets into that habit, it will be heck to break him of it. I enter into puppy or derby stakes if they are wild bird only or "no pen-reared birds released." Just a caution to be very concerned about pup catchin...

Re: sending dog for training
If you do end up sending him away, think about 3 months, not 1 month. It's hard for a trainer to do much in that short of a time when he has to "learn" the dog as well. Surely you can find a good trainer to work with you - most will offer short lessons for you and the dog together if you prefer that...

Also, never give a command you cannot enforce. If that means you have to keep a checkcord on the dog for when you want him to "come," then that's what you need to do. You need to be able to enforce IMMEDIATELY, any command you give. If you say "here" or "come" while he's not paying attention and you...

I have one intact dog (of 8). No way should you neuter before he's finished growing. At least 18 months old. Opposite sexes usually get along better than same sex dogs. Neutral territory introduction is important. Keeping the older dog happy by taking him solo a lot helps too. Pup also needs to be solo a lot.

Once a dog has learned they can jump in and grab a bird, there is no benefit to the dog for standing the birds. They think they can always catch one because they have done it. Try wearing him down (for mine, that means 10-15 miles of roading) then reintroducing the pup to him. Crate him if it gets out of control, but only after he's tired. My older Vizsla just had the same surgery - a laryngeal tie-back they called it. I just crated and rotated until he was completely healed. You don't want the dog to be overheating or expending too much energy (panting), so it's a good idea to limit the interaction with a high energy pup.

GWP's can have the propensity to be aggressive, they were not bred to be wallflowers. If the female is aggressive, there is a high likelihood that the pups will be aggressive. If it was me, I'd pick from another litter that has a proven track record of producing dogs with good attitudes.

No real red flags - nice breed overall, but you get what you breed for - so be picky about getting the "range" and "instinct" that you want. Check out the parents, look into the line of dogs. It won't kill the puppy, but I'm an advocate of waiting until 9-10 weeks to pick up the pup from the breeder. That seems to be the "best" time to remove a pup from the litter. I'd skip the early release and pick the pup up after the holidays, but that's just my preference.
