Re: Pup vomiting in the car hasn't stopped?

The other thing that always works is let him drive. :r You never get sick when you are driving. 8)

Ezzy

Ezzy, I thought about letting him drive but can't do it. He's a boozer.
Come to think .... maybe that explains the queasy stomach?

Pup vomiting in the car hasn't stopped?

Hi fellas' The new pup is now 10 months old and the training here at the house is going very well. My issue is that every single time I put the dog in the truck he throws up. He is not scared of the vehicle, rides along with his older mate who loves to get loaded up and does not hesitate jumping in ...

Re: Pointing lab running out and ranging too far.

Thanks for the good input.

FYI- I received a couple of low class PM's from site members that prompted my reply above.
I do realize they are thankfully in the minority.

Nice to know that this is a place or so I thought where those less experienced can ask a question or express a concern and hope to get insight and not insults.

Re: Pointing lab running out and ranging too far.

Winch, I hope I did not give the impression that I am displeased with the pup. He's doin great and very likely smarter than I am. My issue is that he's running out 100 yards or more then usually holds a nice point for ten to 15 seconds which I am delighted with but then flushes it with me still char...

Pointing lab running out and ranging too far.

Well the pup that three months ago I was worried would not get out enough has found his stride and lot of enthusiasm for the field. He's about 5 months old now. Great nose, retrieving traits and pointing very well for his age.. Ironically my issue is keeping him in range. He generally checks in well...

Transition from call back cage to Johnny house to ???

Hi Gang. My first call back cage project has been very successful thus far. I assume the birds will stop recalling pretty soon as the spring season kicks in. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and help. I've enjoyed the whole thing enough that I plan to build a full size Johnny House in late s...

Re: Pretty guns

Thanks Dave, I get a great deal of pleasure chasing birds with them.
I also don't buy any guns anymore that I will not take out of the safe and into the field to use as they were intended.

Re: quail cage

Ok Quail cage I'm busted. I got some free milo from a farmer buddy and a broken bag of corn for $4.75 so the truth be told my birds diet suffers from a cheapskate owner who didn't spend the $15.25 on the flight conditioner. I don't expect to have the birds more than a month so I figured this would s...

Re: quail cage

Forgive the assumption,
Milo and cracked corn are their main staple with grit scattered.

Re: quail cage

Tractor Supply has everything you need. get one of the red feeding dishes that the plastic quart jar screws into .
I bought 25lb of chicken grit the other day for $8.00. They have watering containers also but I still like the coke bottle deal the best.

Re: quail cage

Steamer, I am trying out just what you have described. I built a call back cage 4'x3'x 12""h. I got tired of driving an hour to the nearest place to work my pointing lab pup on birds and plus I have a 7 acre field perfect for daily training. Here's what I can tell you so far. Bought 12 bobwhites a w...

Re: Placement of a call back cage ?

Tall Boy you may have a good idea there putting the cage off the ground overnight. Here's a look at the field out back and a finger of woods with heavy cover where a cage could be placed. And I can watch how high a Coyote can jump from my bedroom window! Thanks. http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f38...

New Guy just outside Louisville ,Ky

Hello all. Been bird and small game hunting non stop since I was five years old and at fifty I hope to not slow down anytime soon. Mainly pheasant hunt these days and quail when I can find them. Spend a good amount of time in Kansas chasing birds with my Labs which I've had for over 25 years. Got a ...

Any Kentucky Lab faithful out there ?

Curious if there was much in the way of Pointing lab owners around the Ky area.
New pup and I would like to see if there are others around.

Thanks,

Re: Possible ACL injury

Redman, Take heart. My now 6 year old Lab Tessa who's sitting right next me hoping for a morsel drop as usual had the same thing happen when she was about six months old. My vet who's sharp as a tack sent me to a top gun surgeon who took film and said she had about a 60% ACL tear. He recommended wai...

Re: Placement of a call back cage ?

Ok so if I am placing the call back cage in field cover how can I protect the cage from predators? In my case mainly coyotes. I'm assuming the cage needs to be left out overnight if I'm working the dog in the evenings ? How bout this idea. The field I'll be working in is 50feet from my 1/4 acre fenc...

Placement of a call back cage ?

Hello everyone. New member here. With a new pup in the house and the closest place I can get him in birds an hour away I have constructed a small call back cage to keep 10 or so bobwhites here at my house for daily work. I have a 7 acre CRP type field behind our house and it is 50 yards from an open...
