dog food
What does most out there do in the off season in terms of dog food? Do you change to a lesser fat/protein during the summer months? What do most out there feed?

Re: Some of best GSP's ever????????
GK's Rambin' Danny produced several FC's, and I believe 3 NFC/NAFC get. Dixielands' Luke, if bred to a big running female, would produce some phenominal trial type dogs.
On the female side, I've always been partial to Rawhide's Bad News and Quailrun's Roxy Roller.

Re: trainers
I recently purchased a book on dog training written by Er Shelley called 20th Century Dog Training. Hardback, circa 1920. Not in great shape, but not bad. $4.00. Pretty interesting, it seems that today there are not alot of people familiar with Mr. Shelley.

Rick Rigg, 50, married 20 yrs to my much better half Debbie, who is a trainer for Verizon. We have 4 kids, 1 son and 3 daughters, 3 grandkids. At any given time we have between 4 and 10 GSP's. I grew up hunting in Illinois, and now branch that out to as far as Montana. We field trialed for 15 yrs, b...

I like Kansas, but Montana is my favorite. Sharpies, Huns, Phez. Big enough country for a nice going pointing dog to move around in. Unbelievable scenery. Carrying a camera was almost as fun as carrying a gun.

DriftSaver, I had a dog out of Teak also, bred to Cunninghams Roustabout Rowdy. He was out of Lyons Ramblin Jute bred to Moesgaards Deejays Sin. I had the same results, one of the best wild bird dogs I've ever seen. We called him Bullseye's Rowdy Demon, and we won alot with him as a puppy/derby dog ...

2002 Ford F250 7.3 liter Powerstroke Diesel. 4x4 extended cab, 8 ft. bed. 133,000 miles and bought it with 400 miles on it. Kinda hard to find, people that have the old International built Powerstrokes are either abusing them or keeping them. Pulled a 26 ft horse trailer around field trialing for a ...

Bob Merkel once told me: "If it doesn't make the hair on the back of your neck stand up, you're in the wrong sport". Now go out and find the one that does it for you.

Re: Teaching a Horse to Ground Tie
I have used the head crank method, and have seen a horse actually run away with his head pulled to the side. Pretty dangerous for the horse. I imagine it was because he had not been introduced properly to what it was. Whichever method you propose to use, keep in mind the horse needs to understand be...

I believe originally that Dan Anderson was the owner/trainer there. Marc and Dave worked for him when he took over running some other aspects of the business as well as the kennel. In the beginning, I think they were pretty strong in the old German type lines.

Re: Field trial GSPs
Good question, and DNA was supposed to help take care of the situation, however it's only as good as the governing body that enforces the rules. Otherwise its and exercise in futility and nothing more than a donation to the parent club. Stay tuned, there's more in the wind on this very subject........

Re: breaking your dogs
I have a professional trainer friend that keeps his trial dogs broke during the trial season(s), but lets them break at the shot during the hunting season. He claims it just isn't that hard to bring them back to being broke, especially since they'll know the difference between hunting and trialing. ...

New to the GDF, but just curious, how many out there hunt with broke dogs? The full out steady to wing & shot type of broke?
