I too would be a little nervouse about shooting a gun around a 15 week old, a blank gun at a distance is one thing but a shotgun at a closer distance would make me nervous. Very cool that the pup pointed the bird for ya. Good Luck with your pup.

If you want your dog to hold on the shot why not teach her to stop when she hears a shot. A very famous dog person Jim Spencer had a shorthair named Eric (on the cover of a book or two he wrote) this dog had the same problem. In fact this dog failed alot and ended up with his Master Hunter but he we...

For field trials and hunt tests here in the US, the dog is not allowed to move once it establishes point. Handler flushes, bird is shot. The dog may not move until sent to retrieve.
The dog can as you would say "jump" after the shot and still be ok as long as he/she stops themselves.

I used a bell on my pup, it helped keep track of him in the house. Of course it didnt help him any in his sneek attacks on the family cat.

You can win with 2 and 3 birds ,I have seen it done and done it myself. Everyone else must have only shot one then. I'll be the 1st to say i have nothing good to say about NSTRA so I'll quit saying anything...I have been watching this forum for some time and I would rather not get booted a few days...

Just remember if your working with live birds dont let your dog go in the direction that the bird just flew in to redo the drill, thats a delayed chase. do a 180 out and use another bird.
