I'm headed up to NW Kansas this Sunday for a week long pheasant hunt, from what I read and been told its going to be real tough finding birds but we are going to give it our best shot anyway.

A well trained lab will out retrieve any other dog breed in the world, Pretty arrogant and close minded statement. I guess things arent always bigger in Texas after all! Look, I dont care what kind of dog you get. You just have to do your research and dont get caught up in this is better the...

Re: still trying to decide on which breed
I would strongly consider a field bred lab. One that has both an upland and retrieving pedigree. A well trained lab will out retrieve any other dog breed in the world, so it will be by far your best choice for ducks and dove. And if you do enough research and find a kennel that has upland hunting la...

I'm not surprised that tower shooters drink hot chocolate. I'm even less surprised that tower shooters would need to ask if that is acceptable. Thumbs up , and nominated for comment of the day lol. Cool post man, you have a great dog it looks like! Well done of the pictures they came out perfect.
I started noticing that I can tell its a great "hunt recap post" by how much it makes me hate being stuck at work, so good job I officially hate my office right now!

I would take him to vet to make sure he is not sick. If he comes back fine then I would do this three step training approach. 1) Live BIRDS 2)Live BIRDS 3)Live BIRDS There is nothing a retriever wants to chase and put in their mouth more than a live bird. Take a pigeon with clipped wings out on your...

I haven't hunted Kansas, but the Dakota's will tear a dog up. Not the pads as much as between the toes. I've gone to 1000 denier cordura from dogbooties.com. Cheap and they do a nice job. Why not get a dog that was bred to be a flushing dog, such as a springer? Many labs have been bred to be a flushing dog, these dogs barely resemble your average pet lab. They can quarter thru a field as well as any springer, and they will retrieve a downed bird better than any dog on the planet. So ...
