Re: Intact younger dog and older dog aggression
OK Thanks for these thoughts, super helpful. I once had a trainer tell me you had to hit both dogs at the same time with the stim and at the right time in order to end fighting, but then I definitely have heard the echos of what has been said here so far a lot more often. Then again, my remote is a ...

Older brittany is 9 years Younger Brittany is 1.5 years The younger dog has started to segue from a submissive stance to the dominant dog and things are getting nasty. Re: Won't hunt
I'm starting to believe that the only thing that doesn't change in a really young pup is nothing. 4 months is getting along, but still very young. Start worrying in a year, until then, just go easy on the dog and boost his confidence by running him in safe open areas with no cars around off lead as ...

Re: How to fix>?
At 18 weeks old, your job is to facilitate the environment for safety and exploration. If you are exploring, you are in a save environment as far as roads go. Off leash at this age means safe areas, not forcing the dog to recall reliably without the proper maturity and foundation. Also, your 18 mont...

I meant to say that it isn't worth the risk. I thought I had mentioned that but it looks like I forgot to. I probably won't buy those kinds of toys ever again for my bird dogs. My point was not to worry too much if you already had done it, because you will probably be OK and there is no point in wor...

Re: Kovan - No squeak Toys
This could be a dog dependent issue. I have to echo that my brittany didn't ever get hard mouthed due to squeaker toys, maybe because birds don't squeak? IDK it sounds like the GWP folks have had opposite experiences though. My older Brittany DID start to get hard mouthed after a few seasons of feed...

I think you will get a mixed bag of opinions on this one. Possums are marsupials and have a body temp that doesn't really agree with rabies. Common misnomer but the honest truth is they just aren't likely carriers, unlike raccoons and skunks.

Might be a good idea to pattern your gun as well. The rule of thumb (with steel) is to step up a shot size or so (using 6 shot in lead? go to 4) and keep the chokes open. My info also says that because of the hardness of steel its better in most guns (for sure sxs and o/u) to stay away from full an...

What you use as the command for recall doesn't matter and once you have the basics down you can use more than one recall. Tougher game restrictions and anti-gun regulations may be the key culprit. Hunting seems to be getting more expensive. Habitat for wild game seems less and less. Hunter access and loss of interest are the top contenders. Habitat loss is the key player in less game, but that isn't really why there a...
