Re: Food.
I checked out the specs on your puppy food. It is a little lower in fat content than i like for an active dog(36% protein/16% fat). The protein content is excellent. Most puppy foods that I have used and most adult performance foods have 20% fat and 30% protein. If it were my dog, I would add some ...

Re: in your opinion, which breed for a beginner?
I have always had a hunting dog, and until 2.5 years ago, they were always Labs. I struggled with what breed to get as I wanted a pointing breed. I settled on an English Setter. And I LOVE her. Easy to train, machine in the field, perfect in the house, loves kids, I could not be happier. My Dad, who...

I would question how reputable your new breeder is. More for a female??? It happens, but it total bs. Like lab litters who charge more for the yellows??? Same freaking litter, they are doing it for the cash, period. And just word of caution, training a dog and impatience are not a good mix.......

When I bought my stter and was doing research, I did call them, and checked out their web site. For me, and me only, it seemed they breed show dogs and setters for photo shoots in Cabelas ads. My concern is whether or not FTs really are producing a better bird dog. FTs dont produce any dogs. Good breeding and a lot of training make good bird dogs, FTs are just a way some folks like to apply said training and breeding. FT dogs are not "good" BECAUSE they trial, they trial them when the ow...
