Seen a nice covey of about 12-15 birds the other day, however I always see birds in this spot and it gets hunted pretty hard by a lot of people. Not saying that is good but at least its the "normal"

keep a journal, after the hunt just write down things like weather conditions, wind direction, time of day, cover birds were in, any crops close etc etc I have a garmin but my journal gets more use as to figuring out where to go

I have inherited some cool mule deer and whitetail antlers that my grandpa has taken in California, Nevada, and Missouri years ago. we killed 9 "yotes" within a 1/2 mile radius of the house lat year and they are still out there every night howling away, possibly trying to lure the new pup out but hes in a kennel with a top he'll be fine

I wanted a darker colored gsp but had to have a solid liver head and am pleased with how my pup is turning out although others may say he's too small, too skinny or whatever I wouldn't change a thing.

So all you folks with smaller dogs - were they smaller at 8 weeks of age too? Could you have predicted their size when you took them home? Physical size (muscle mass) has a lot to do with heat tolerance on desert hunts. I doubt a 70 pounder could run all day at 75-80 degrees, but a 40 pounder might...

my 1 1/2 year old male has never been over 42lbs but usually stays around 39-40, it bothered me at first that he was smaller but I've changed on that as I think hes a great looking dog and is a powerhouse in the field. most athletic dog I've ever had, he is just a blast to watch

I started whistling just to get attention, my gsp is a big runner compared to my other dogs. so one long blast is whoa, three successive short ones are here and i use to occasionally give a short one to change direction but after awhile he just kinda learned what i expect and i rarely whistle now

my gsp was the exact same when he was a pup i would take him for walks and think oh geez i got one expensive boot warmer then one day he just took off hunting/pointing everything a few walks later and i had to start worrying about ranging him in, he is extremely birdy and has more hunt than any dog ...

Well the vet came out and gave em all shots to help break the fever as well as something called baytril!? He swears by it and I trust him. One of them was bad enough we had to tube him and give him electrolytes, the vet also left us with enough to do it again tomorrow!
